I'm not the guy you asked this, but it depends on what you consider a waste. If you're going for having a car to enjoy, no. And the first big deprication hit is already done, you're buying one used. Some people think buying ANY car new his a money waste due to the deprication hit. Me I don't since I like the idea of getting to enjoy the car from it being new, of saying I was the first owner. But I have a friend who's never bought a new car in her life, and yes she can afford to. She thinks this way, she never takes the deprication hit of it being "used" the minute the car is transfered from the car dealer to the buyer in her mind.

Anyway, you have to know what's good for you. If your gut instinct says "Wait for 2012", then wait. Just don't say in 2012 "Oh..um..2016 the next generation will be out, maybe I'll wait for that!". Then you never buy a car. And for me, I bought a new 2009 in December since I liked my old car, but I was wanting new and it was 6 years, 6 months old. I figured in 4 to 6 years when I go to trade in or sell my G37x and get new, I can see what Infiniti, Acura and a couple other brands I like are doing then, and look at other brands too. And not worry about "Oh um...will they be doing some upgrade in three months...etc".

Anyway, whatever you finally do, enjoy.

Lease the car if you are so worried. The current g37s is a fine car and it will still get love even when a new model comes out. If you buy use the car for 5 or 6 years and and then trade it in for the next shiny toy .
