New owner - break in period questions

Hi everyone - just got my G37 Journey sedan Friday, and I've been trying to put a bunch of easy miles on it in order to get to the end of break-in asap. But babying the VVEL is killing me! aaaargh! I want punch it so bad from a light, and run through those 7 gears like a crazed tour de france rider wacked out on the steriods he got from free french medical care!

Anyway, to make long rambling diatribe a bit shorter - the gist is, how soon did anybody abandon the break in and just go crazy? I'm at 400 miles, and I don't think I have the self control to wait much longer....I may need an intervention - tie me down gitmo style, take away my key fob, for I WILL SURELY brutalize this fine piece before the week is done.....aaaargh!

i stopped the break-in procedure at 600 miles.. lol and it seems to be going along just fine. I guess we won't know until the engine gets really old, like 100k+ miles. If you plan on keeping the car for a long, long time.. then i recommend following the procedure. Its a peace of mind i would say.

Congrats on the new ride!

Man....the reason Kidcane does that is because there have been at least 200 threads about the "break-in period". A simple SEARCH would have yielded the answer to your question 50 times over.

That's fine Knoxville, but instead of some responding with arcane antagonism, he could have just said 'Ozzy this question has been asked a 1,000 times, just try the search.' Other people were fine with with simple and useful responses - not everybody has to be an ******* just because somebody made a harmless mistake. These boards can be great repositories of useful information, but you also have to navigate the minefield of immature ******** whose average emotional age hovers around 11 or 12 and whose self-worth is measured in the number of posts they have to some obscure internet message board.

Hello Folks! Need few words of wisdom...

Background: I just picked me '12 G37x sedan (Smoky Quartz, Premium and Nav Pkg) about 2 weeks ago. I have about 250 miles on it and am trying to go through the break-in period. I have kept it under 4K RPMs for almost the whole time. For 3 to 5 times I probably did go as high as 5.5K RPMs for few secs while trying to change lanes or trying to avoid jacka**es who were tailgating me.

Question: Could I have caused any damage to the engine/transmission by going over 4K RPMs for 3 to 5 times? Anything I could do to revert the damage?

Thanks in advance!

Happy G-ing.

Flyer- no likely damage. If there were, you can't do anything to make it better.

A break in period is very important, but going a bit high on rpm is not detrimental as long as your not being rough on the car at every light. just be easy as long as you can and respect the car for what it is. i personally wouldnt rip on it hard till after the first oil change and make sure you are using a quality oil and filter. An infiniti (nissan)mechanic told me and many others this here in NC my car has 30,000 miles now and runs great no known issues. to each there own though gl

Coprolite and betterdayz- Thanks for the input. I didn't think I should be in trouble but wanted to check. I am still open to input in case anyone still willing to offer.

Thanks!
