HPDE - BMWCCA Summit Point April 29 - May 1

http://www.motorsportreg.com/calenda...B48C7A5459B1CA

I registered for the 3-day event. This will be my first time (of hopefully many times) on the track and I can't wait! I always wanted to track the Z but the mods I did to it didn't make that a good idea.

You don't need to own a BMW, but you do have to become a member of BMWCCA, which is $40/yr. They always have HPDEs and Autocross events, so that $40 is well worth it. Plus, I've heard BMWCCA's driving school program is very good, high quality, and their events are very organized, which implies a safe driving environment.

I seen in another thread that a whole bunch of people are interested in going to the road course: http://g35driver.com/forums/showthre...t=summit+point. It'll be nice if someone joins me for this event. You don't have to register for the 3-day event, you can do the 2-day. The difference with the 3-day is that on the 3rd day, Monday, we drive on the Summit Point circuit.

It's 7 weeks away, which is plenty of time to prep your cars and get a minimum Snell 2000 helmet. Let me know!!!

2-Day = $320
3-Day = $420

But also figure in hotel stay if want to stay near the track rather than go home, gas, fluids, brake pads, etc...

That is pricey but will consider it. Cost of wearing out my car is probably high also. I'm sure i'll need new tires by the end of the session along with brakes and whatever else that may break.

After about 10 laps, his tires got too hot and he did not have as much grip as he did during the previous 9 laps. He was riding with an instructor that said he did everything he possibly could have done, but when you lose it at 90 on a corner, there isn't much you can do...

It's alright since it was his first wreck in 15 yrs with his insurance company, so they paid for it without giving him too much of a fight, and he bought this to replace it:

Yes, there is some danger running on a track. You have to ask yourself, "What am I going to do if I break something on the car, or if someone clips my bumper, or if....etc?" This is a driving school, NOT a racing school. There will be an instructor in your passenger seat telling you to slow down if he feels you are going too fast. The whole point of events like this is to learn your driving limits, the car's limits, and the rules of driving on track (flag colors, passing zones, passing signals).

Yup, I didn't mean to discourage anyone from signing up by any means. After all, the track is the best and safest place to really see what you and your car can do. I've only done ~8 laps around the Jefferson circtuit, and they were a blast! I've never ridden the pedals that hard or for such sustained periods of time. It was amazing to have a passenger in the car actually yell at you to drive harder, enter a corner hotter, etc.

Vic, what was the fastest you've gotten on the Jefferson circuit. I like the fact that it's a small track, so I imagine speeds are kept at a minimum, and you can focus more on brake timing and cornering. I think this track is perfect for 1st timers, like myself.

I wasn't exiting corners very well (did alot of plowing), so after scrubbing alot of speed, and trying to make up for it on relatively short straights, I barely got over 80! I did well enough to get the waive-by from a couple cars, but an STI passed me like I was standing still.
