You're right, most of the stuff is pretty simple DIY like the oil change, air filter, fuel/oil additives, and checking all the stuff like belts/hoses and brakes and stuff. If you know what you are doing and have the tools and parts you should be fine, except for the balancing. But most people don't have the tools or know how to do all of it, or they just don't want to. Some people just want the peace of mind that a trained professional is looking over the car just in case they notice something that the average person might miss.
