Ouch that hurts!

Driving home from the dealership the other day... Exiting 495 on to Braddock road... and I hear a loud "BAM" on my driver side door (something flew up and smacked my door). I about crap my pants because I know that had to do some paint damage... I get home to check the damage and yes 3-4 1/2" scratches in the paint and one small chip down to the metal!!!

I know that with my 250 deductable it is not worth claiming it...

I was wondering if any of you have ever done some touchups/small paint repairs on your G? I searched the boards and found some threads on the touchups... I was thinking of attempting to repair the area myself. Basically the just of the repair is as follows:

*********************************************
CHIP FIX
*********************************************
clean area GOOD.

Tape surrounding area

prime with tooth pick if it's down to metal.

put layers of touch up paint until the chip is made into a bubble (after it has dried).
WET sand the area with 2000 grit sand paper. if that doesn't cut it then go to 1500 if that doesn't do it go to 1000(only experienced people please)
Polish and wax.

that is what it is in a nutshell

I will try to post some pictures... just wanted some local advice that is why I did not post it in the maintenance/care forum...

that sounds about right. i tried this on my ex ex gf's acura 3.2 TL type S...the touch up paint seemed a hair yellower than her stock pearl white paint. so in the sun you could kinda see the difference...but at least the bare metal was gone.. lol...ya i ****ed it up...hahahaha

I feel your pain man. A similar thing happened to me a while ago, except not only were there scratches, but there was a dent too. I had to take it to the body shop. Consequently, it was an opportunity to get my body kit painted at the same time.

Good luck with the touch up paint. I tried covering up a door ding once, but the results were poor. I left it on as a reminder not to mess with any paint fixes.

speaking of "bam" - driving up 95N last Friday, I was gunning it in between packs of congestion and saw a rock in the middle of my lane. No way for me to avoid it, so i wanted to just make sure I didn't run over it with a tire or run dead center over it and clip it with my rear dif. Anyway, "bam"! I felt the car shudder as my seat literally passed right over it. Good thing I didn't go airborne like another NGC member did a while back, but I then noticed an odd smell.

To make a long story short, I inspected the car and noticed that thankfully my stillen front fascia didn't crack with the impact - it flexed as its supposed to, but the paint didn't fair too well - I can see bubbles where it should be flaking off soon. Upon jacking the car up, I also noticed I have 2 punctures in my y-pipe! ugh... And no, Puria, I'm not in the mood to buy yours right now. I still have my stock one, but I don't think the 2 punctures will hurt me too much until next emissions inspection at least.

Since my rock accident, I'm scared to ride over anything now. I was on 95 Tuesday morning and saw a metal vent. I almost **** myself. But of course I had to hit a little piece of it, just enough to scratch my front Aero Kit. My luck!!!
