Aftermarket Head Unit Installation

ALCON,

Has anybody installed an aftermarket headunit without using the double din conversion? I spoke to a Fairfax Tweeter manager, who stated that a couple of G35c owners had them fiberglass a single din. If anybody has done this could you please provide some pictures and/or reference the shop.

Tweeter quoted me a cost of $230 ($200 labor+$30 material).

What year is your G? If it's an '05 it would look F'ed up because of the aluminum(sp). The 03-04 had plastice that could be painted to match. I have read of people getting the fiberglass single dins on g35driver somewhere.

My G is 2004. I just wanted to gain some perspective if anyone in the NGC has gone this route. I will search through the Audio Forum. Thanks for the quick reply.

I've had Fairfax Tweeter work on my G a couple times. First time was to install an amp and speakers. Subsequent times to resolve issues that they didn't handle very adeptly. I won't get too specific, but be careful with them. They might just be a hair better than CC or BB.

Do you know the name of the installer? Supposedly they have an installer now, who is one of the best in the company. Remember thats what they said.

If you could please provide the name(s) of your installer then I can verify.

Sorry, I've worked with a handful of guys. I did work with one guy that was apparently the head of their mobile dept (not sure if just the store, or regional) that was supposed to be very good and performed the installs of the shop employees' cars, but he misdiagnosed my issue. I came back the next day and had a younger installer make a change that resolved my issue and the whole time a sales man was trying to upsell a Cleansweep.

Did you replace all your bloes speakers/amp when you did your install vlm7? I am looking to upgrage the system in my G... noticed you said you went to FF Tweeter... They are just a couple of miles down the road from me... Would you recomend them or do you know a better place around NOVA?

I had FFX Tweeter replace my Blose (speakers and amp). PM pdjafari for a referral. As for Tweeter, I had the Manassas branch do work on another car, and they did a great, albeit less complicated, job.

If you get any leads on an audio installer, LMK.

Are you planning to retain the stock head unit? I am undecided at the moment. I have an '04 w/o MP3 capability.

FYI
At the minimum I will have the front component speakers, a 5 channel amp, the 4080 box w/sub, and FATMAT installed.

I'd recommend upgrading your audio in stages instead of all at once. Everyone's ear for sound is different. I upgraded just a sub at first thinking I just want bass only to be overpowered by it and not enough up front. Then later on upgraded the front components. Im thinking maybe later on down the line upgrade the amp and even nicer components upfront (I have Infinity Kappas) with a JL sub. Of course all this runs through my computer so you also need a decent sound card (I have a Soundblaster Live). I'd think this way you can fine tune your system to what you like.

Thanks for the advice.

However, I already purchased the components for my audio system. I have Focal 165V1 component speakers and 5 channel Hifonics ZX8000 amp, which I will bridge the 4 channels to the front and then 5th channel is for the JL 10W3V2 sub in the 4080box. Also have 50 square feet of FATMAT to use on the panels, trunk, and underneath the floors.

I would really like to hear the differences between the Bose and an aftermarket headunit (Alpine, if available) with upgraded front component speakers and 4080box w/sub. As you mentioned earlier an audio system is subjective.

It may be a long ride for you Nova Guys, but DSI Mobile Electronics (Laurel, MD) 301.490.4197, has done all the work on my Rolls, FX, and G-Coupe. Their work is extraordinary! Call and ask for Levi or Dave, and tell them that Claude sent you. They installed an XM Radio package in my FX yesterday - - the work is "perfection!!!" They can do anything, and they do it all well!!!!

Ciao!
Claude
