NationalGClub Food Drive and Volunteer Help - January 9th - PLEASE READ!

Hey guys, in an effort to help out during the holiday season and since some of you were intersted in giving back to the community, I contacted a few local places (shelters, soup kitchens) and tried to find some things we can do.

I came across one place in Montgomery County (www.mannafood.org - Manna food shelter) that seemed really interested and needed a lot of help. Please check out the website if you're interested in what they do. In short they make food boxes and give them to underpriviledged families across the area.

So what is it that we can do? After speaking with the director for a while I learned they need 2 main items to pack. Cereals and peanut butter. I thought it would be great to set aside Monday evening, January 9th to help out with this. Basically what I had planned is there's a 2 hour slot on Monday evening (Sorry its one of the few days they do this) and we can set it from 7-9 where we'll make these food boxes and pack it all up so they can ship them out to give them to families.

We'd be doing 2 things though. First, donating cereal and peanut butter but also packing them off. After speaking with the director we set a goal of 300 boxes of cereal and 300 jars of peanut butter. That to me doesnt seem too unrealistic guys. In fact I think we can probably push 500. The more the better but we HAVE to achieve this goal. You guys can't sell out on me here or yours truly will have his G full of this stuff on my own.

Hopefully you guys are into this and I think it will be a good thing to do. The place is located in Rockville so please leave the 9th open and bring as much peanut butter and cereal as you can.

Maybe we can get a signup sheet going of who can come and how much they can bring. I actually saw something in Giant or Safeway I believe for 10 boxes of cereal for $10? Not bad. But anyways I hope as a group we can be really enthusiastic about it and can all feel better about ourselves.

What do you guys think? Comments/suggestions? I hope you guys are down with this (sorry for the long winded post)!!

1. Pratik (as much stuff as I can bring and 7-9 is the best time for me)

I would be more than happy to donate some food. I don't think I will be able to make it to Rockville though. Maybe I can plan on meeting up with one of you guys who is going so I can give them the food I will donate.

Nah I didnt check. Been swamped with work. Besides, I have no room to keep like 30 boxes of cereal in my house - even if its for $30. I figure around that time though I'll just go and pick some up on sale.

One thing I did want to mention is if you feel more comfortable donating money as well, if you want to do just that you are welcome to, and I would just purchase some food with the money you donated if you trust me and want to do that.

But really. Although its only been a day I was expecting more response. Hopefully nearing the date you guys will step up to the plate.
