aftermarket sirrius

Hey guys I have an 05 6mt with premium but no sirrius sat. I was wondering if anyone has bought the kit from grubbs and actually installed it. What I'm really looking for is if I have to purchase anything for the "head unit" so i can switch to sat.

Anyone?

Beuller?

Dude, Sirius is getting Howard Stern in a month and it already has the NFL package. Stern is enough reason for me to get Sirius!!! I'll be getting it in the next few months but of course I can just hook it up to my carputer so just need a Sirius adapter for me. I hear the lifetime service offer ends at the end of the year though so I guess I'll have to get it before then.

I installed Sirius myself with dealer kit and have a stealth antenna - and JDM - why are you bashing Sirius - because you don't like the antenna? Same goes for XM - or are you bashing all Satellite radio? I've installed Sirius on 3 of my cars and none of them ever had an antenna on the roof.

I've not heard of the stealth antenna, could you give a link for it? I'm thinking about getting sirius too, but dread putting something on my roof.

You can use either the stock large antenna or any of the mini antenna's available and mount them internally. On my G, I have it on the rear parcel deck in place of a child seat anchor post (they look almost identical). On 1 other car, I have it on the front dash right beside the VIN, and on another car, I have it taped to the top of the windshield above the rearview mirror.

can anyone answer my original question? lol

JDM I want sirius cause I want it. I didn't get it with the car cause I didn't want my payment being another 10 bucks a month when I can just buy the tuner for $200 on my own.

consider this thread hijacked!!!

Did you read my original post where I said I installed the dealer kit? Or was your question limited to kits purchased from Grubbs? I purchased my kit from an Arizona Infiniti dealership, and it included everything - plug and play.

If you don't mind spending a few extra bucks, I got my antenna from www.colormatchantenna.com and it matched perfectly. You give them the paint code and they paint it to match. I was pretty happy with it and I'm usually pretty picky. Just another option to the huge factory antenna. Oh and I got the Sat box from Grubbs but my car was already prewired so I didn't have to deal with that part. - James

Edit: After further research, it looks like they don't paint antennas anymore for some reason. That's strange because I just got mine about 3 weeks ago. It might be worth a call if you're interested.

I really meant from some other source than the dealer, but since you got it done at the dealer what was your cost? I found one that was $269 for a kit. I just wanted to know if anyone got the kit and had any problems just hooking it to the pre-run cable and just hitting a button on the bose head unit and accessing the sat.

jdm, didn't mean anything buy my comment. I like the clean look too. I would run the antenna into the back dash. I don't want the sirrius that has the head unit you have to buy and mount on the dash. That's why I was looking at just the tuner from grubbs, and was wondering if it would "fit" into the bose system seamlessly.

macr6 - yes, I just purchased the Sirius "kit" from the dealer and installed it myself. I got it back in 2003 before the proliferation of online sources, so I paid close to 400 for it, which was just a bit less than the dealer installed option, but given that I got the car in 2003 and got it from an out of state dealer despite being on another in-state dealer's wait list, I wasn't in a position to be very picky about configuration. Things are different nowadays, so good luck with getting the kit.
