Ok so I am officially getting an XBOX360 and Im a Sony Fan

However, many examples can be shown where a huge company tries to jump into a market at the wrong time with the wrong target (ie. SEGA). Sega was huge after its success with the Genesis. I even recall the rave that came about once the Dreamcast was released, but 6 months-1 year later...SEGA went to ****!! They spent so much money on marketing and advertising, look at SEGA now, they only develop games... Although SEGA and microsoft are 2 totally different companies. Sony has a similar grasp on electronics that Microsoft has on computer software. I remember a time when Sony only made walkmans and TVs/VCRs. Now they make just about everything... The xbox360 wont fail like the dreamcast...i dont suspect, however in the oversea's market I can guarantee a sony victory...

its funny how ps2 looked pretty awesome to me and xbox was too bulky. now the xbox 360 looks awesome and the ps3 looks horrible.
ok, thats pretty much besides the point, but truly, after you guys watch that MGS4 trailor, you will see what the ps3 can really do. I havent seen any footage or screenshots for the 360 to match it.

so basically the Xbox360 has a 3 core, 2 thread per core power PC processor capable of running 6 simutaneous hardware threads.
The PS3 has the cell processor which consist of one power PC processor, and 7 APUs, with one doing background work, and the other 6 be assigned to the programer. Think of the cell as an 8 core processor
Since its 2 vastly different types of processor structure, you cant really compare clockspeed, we use FLPS, or floating point calculations per seconds as a bench mark to test CPU power. Its kind of like, how cars have different engines such as turbocharged I4, V6, V8 etc and different horsepower ratings, but in the end its the actual 0-60 and 1/4 time that best tells you how fast a car is.
Xbox can push 1 terraflops
PS3 can push 2 terraflops
so the ps3 is much more powerful in terms of runing 3d graphics and AI and physics.
The video cards on the 2 systems are about the same, the ATI card on the xbox360 has a more efficient structure with unified pipelines which can be assigned to pixel and shaders. The PS3's GPU by Nvidia has a more traditional structure where pixel and shader pipelines are seperate, but its clocked at 550MHZ vs 500MHZ for the xbox360 GPU.
OVERALL IMO, and according to industry experts, the PS3 runs circle around the xbox360 in terms of processing power. The gap between the xbox360 and ps3 will be much bigger than the gap between the ps2 and the xbox. The big unkonwn right now is that we dont know the price for the ps3. It could be really expensive...
BTW the next Grand Theft Auto will be a PS3 luanch tittle, its not accnoucned for the xbox360. Other major tittles for the ps3 include Metal Gear Solid 4, Tekken 5, Gran Turismo 5, Devil May Cry 4 among others. Ill get a xbox360 only if ps3 end up costing 500 bucks or something, otherwise id wait.

So would you say that the graphics will look pretty much the same, but the gameplay experience including physics and AI?
How would the extra power of the PS3 affect the graphics themselves or is it just that the amount of movement onscreen or activity going on onscreen at one time will be increased?

then again, as much as the systems are hyped, it won't make a difference if it has crap for games. xbox has DOA and Halo. ps2 has everything else and it's been around longer and still maintained without needing an upgrade so soon.
TerryW, where are you pullin these numbers from? Everything I have researched has completely contradicted you. In fact, let me point you to this link in particular if you'd like to read up:
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/617/617951p1.html
Here's some excerpts for you from it:
"There are three critical performance aspects of a console:
* Central Processing Unit (CPU) performance.
* The Xbox 360 CPU architecture has three times the general purpose processing power of the Cell.
* Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) performance
* The Xbox 360 GPU design is more flexible and it has more processing power than the PS3 GPU.
* Memory System Bandwidth
* The memory system bandwidth in Xbox 360 exceeds the PS3's by five times."
"The Xbox 360's CPU has more general purpose processing power because it has three general purpose cores, and Cell has just one."
"The Xbox 360 GPU has more processing power than the PS3's. In addition, its innovated features contribute to overall rendering performance."
"Xbox 360 has 278.4 GB/s of memory system bandwidth. The PS3 has less than one-fifth of Xbox 360's (48 GB/s) of total memory system bandwidth."
"CONCLUSION
When you break down the numbers, Xbox 360 has provably more performance than PS3. Keep in mind that Sony has a track record of over promising and under delivering on technical performance. The truth is that both systems pack a lot of power for high definition games and entertainment."
*********************
Now thats just from the first page comparing hardware!! Is my article that I found old and have specs changed? If so, I stand corrected. Just trying to understand what would be better for me to purchase.

yes, but look at the source also. thats like me going to infiniti's site and comparing to other cars. they will highlight their own advantages, so I would like to see sony's version of this.
Try this for a more even battlefield.

also to add on to the link you sent, note the disclaimer:
Make of it what you will, but be clear we know Microsoft has clearly slanted this info, and we're not endorsing it, just printing their version. There is a difference.
We still meeting by the flagpole??

I aint bent over at all!! Trust me, I want to buy the best system out there. IF anything, you guys are like Sony cult members!! Sony4Life BS. hahaha. Have you guys seen my bigscreen? SONY. Yeah, I know they make some good stuff.
I can see why the XBOX for me is more appealing as the Sony is for others. For me its integration with my computer/network, and using it as a PVR. Hacking a MS product seems to be easier as well.
Again I wish teh PS3 would come out already so I could compare myself. Any idea of a launch date???
