iPod in your rides....
I bought a 4GB Ipod mini about 2 weeks ago. Pratik showed me the install on www.g35ipod.com and this is the route I wish to go. I want to get the PAC audio unit because it is supposed to sound the best. I may also need to mod my center console to fit the charger/dock in there. What setup and route were you thinking of using/taking??

I have no idea. I have been reading on the forum and it seems split for people using the FM transmitter and people using the "tape-thing"-- you know the one where you insert a cassette tape and it's wired to your iPod. I have heard good things about the PAC unit. Where would I get one of those?
I also want to be able to use my steering wheel controls but there is some debate over CD player not working b/c there are not enough ports on the HU. But I'm thinking who needs a CD player with 40 gigs of music.
Has anyone done the g35ipod.com install before? How hard?

Well I was thinking about the FM option but have heard/read bad things in terms of sound quality on them. I heard the tape option is much better in terms of quality when compared to the FM modulator. The PAC unit is the best in terms of sound quality as you probably know. The PAC unit can be obtained on ebay or a host of other websites. I believe the model is PAC AAI NIS for our vehicles. They also have a PAC SWIX unit which I believe maintains steering wheel function which is something that I also wish to keep. I spent $200 on this Ipod mini and it has 4GB, which is really plenty for me (about 1000 songs!). I currently put my entire PC library about 350 songs and I have about 3 GB remaining. The g35ipod install isnt hard but time consuming as it involves ripping the dash apart to install the unit to the back of the stock HU. Something I will spend a nice cool weekend doing in the near future!!

Cool. So did you get the PAC SWIX? How much? You mind if I stop by when you do the install? I have no idea which iPod to get. I have a ton of music ~30gigs, but probably dont listen to most if it since it is on my HD.
I've never had an Ipod so I guess I'll ask this too. All my files are in mp3, what format does the ipod use and is it a pain to convert them over if it is different?

I've heard a lot of good things about the FM Modulator called Griffen iTrip. It plugs on top of your iPod and plays through your speakers. I've heard thats also a better option cause you can take it anywhere like pool side and have it sync with a stereo, etc...
But if you want 100% reliability and don't want to do the PAC unit stuff then go with the "tape thing" because I've never heard a complaint about that.

Damn 30GB!! Thats a **** load of music!! I havent yet ordered the PAC units and am not 100% sure if the SWIX will work in retaining full steering wheel controls (but will verify this b4 ordering). The SWIX unit is like $50-75 and the AAI NIS is around $75-80. I use my Ipod for when I go to the gym, at work and maybe if i were to go on a trip (as I have yet to setup the car for it). But once I setup the G, it'll be used for the gym and car rides mainly. They have alot of diff. Ipods...I thikn space and price would be my 2 biggest determining factors on which one to get other than features. I dont need a camera/pics and all that crap i simply wanted something to play tunes that would eliminate me having to burn CDs every 2 weeks with new music. With this I can cut down on wasting 15 min to DL and burn CDs that get old after 3 weeks!

Man, that PAC HardWire Install is NO JOKE!!! I'm going to need someone there just to keep of all the screw I took out.
I have heard better things about the "tape-thing" than the FM transmitter. People say there is distortion from the FM frequency. Those instructions are great but man it seems pretty daunting for the PAC install.
Has anyone seen/heard news about the iCruze? Can't beat the price for the PAC but might pay more if the iCruze is an easier install.

Whats up guys? Charles, realize when you use the PAC unit you're gonna be using your SAT input in your car. I'm assuming you have one free? If you have SAT, its either one or the other, PAC or SAT. If you're gonna be possibly getting SAT in the future you may want to rethink your plans.
One thing I'd suggest and just a thought is if all you guys are gonna rip up your dashes, i'd do ita ll together to learn what you're doing. Its a BIG pain from the install and I've posted pics when Chuck ripped my dash apart to install my PAC unit for the carputer. Its very involved and I def. wouldnt recommend doing it by yourself.

Thx for the heads up Pratik. Didn't know that but I think I'm safe b/c don't plan on get a SAT setup. I just want something to hold me over since I am in the market for an iPod and will probably upgrade my G when the next body redesign comes out.
But yea.. good idea that this might be a good "group project".
