Oil Consumption Problem after 1300 miles!!!

Ok I had an oil change done at Victory Nissan in Chantilly about 2 months ago and when I reached 1650 miles into my new oil change. I notice that my oil light would come on whenever I came to a complete stop (red lights, traffic, etc). So I would just add a quart of oil and problem fixed and then a few weeks later, same issue.

So I took it to Passport Infiniti and they wanted to do an oil consumption level test which pretty much a new oil change and I bring it back in every 1000 miles to check the level.

So I brought my car back in about 2 weeks ago (right around 1000 miles) and there seemed to be no problem according to the techs who checked it out and the oil level must have been fine. So that was it, and I left.

Now today as I am going to work(in traffic), I realize that I am having the same problem but this time my odometer reads 1300 miles.

It only happens when I make a slight-medium stop (brakes) and then when I give it gas the light goes off and it will continue do this..so on and so forth.
If I give it gas and come to a complete stop and I apply the brakes just slightly, the light doesnt come on.

Currently my car is at Passport being worked on as we speak.

Has anyone every experienced this type of problem?

Well when talking to Passport, it didnt seem like it was the case, cuz they did give me another oil change, so if anything was loose, I would have think that they would have tighten it the last time I was there or something.

it can happen. just see how it goes now. it happened on my car. when i got an oil change the person forgot to tighten the bolt after they crushed the washer. so it was loose.

Smile Oilcoholics Anonymous, we can help...

First question, do you see oil spots under your car when left overnight?

If not, join the club!

There are thousands of us, we are everyday G35 and 350Z owners struggling with oilcoholic cars. It's tough, your dealer will deny the problem exists. You will have recurrent memory problems. Although you will be sure that you told your dealer about the problem on your previous visit, they will look at you as if you are crazy.

Oilcoholism effects dealerships as well. Mine had it so bad they told me that running an engine with only a quart of oil was fine.

After seven months of intensive therapy with my dealership they finally replaced my engine...guess what, my new engine burns more oil than the first!

But my dealership assured me this was normal.

There is actually an oil consumption chart of how much is considered acceptable after a certain amount of miles. You would be surprised how much they consider "normal oil loss."
I really don't know the answer to why a lot of Nissan engines burn some oil, they just do. I have never really had a problem with any of the Nissan's I have ever owned (Sentra, 2 G35's, Pathfinder), but I see quite a bit at work.
Unless the amount of oil falls under the acceptable mark, they won't do anything about it.

Well after Passport has had my car and have had the corporate infiniti specialist come thru and take a look and take pictures.

They have finally decided to replace my valve covers before the actually look at replacing the motor.

Has anyone ever had this done and did it work?

Your valve covers? Are you seeing evidence of oil leaking on the top of your motor?
