UTR Gaskets burned out

I have been having a high resonating sound coming from the exhaust for the last week, so I took it in today to see what the issue was. I thought it might be the heatshield knocking up against the exhaust or ypipe in the middle of the car but I was very wrong. 2 of the 3 gaskets that came with the ypipe are toast and I have leaks there. I bought the 3 gaskets since I am sure the 3rd wont be long and am having it done at jon jons shop. I dont know if anyone else has had this issue, but it was leaking pretty bad.

well I do have a resonating sound, but I think it is due to my HF Cats. Where did you have it checked at? JonJon...also how much are the gaskets?

did you see burn mark where the leak is? i find that when there's a gasket leak, there's usually some burn(black) mark where the flange is. Not sure if the leak creates a resonance sound. I just thought leaks make more of a psss psss sound. I had crack in my test pipe, and it sounded like i was running w/o an exhaust!!

Consensus was to wait until after the holiday season, so please start up a thread late January or early Feb. I was ready to go, but didn't get much positive responses from those interested. So i'd rather just wait, but if anybody really want one now, PM me (please include your email) and I'll see what I can do.

yeah, there were burn marks there on two of the flanges. A Definite exhaust leak.

this usually occurs if/when the nuts holding the exhaust pieces togehter are NOT tightened to SPEC!!! Make sure to use a torque wrench and REEAALLY tighten em up good. Heat causes the metal to expand so even though it might feel good and tight in the winter it may loosen w/ the heat. (that didnt sound too good!!! Good and Tight!!)

yeah, this may have been the case. It was installed in summer but it has had time to contract and expand like you stated. Jon did an excellent job putting them in for me with the zinc sealer (if im not mistaken). My car idles back to normal now too.

edit.. the gaskets from the aftermarket pipe were toast.. literally. flaking and crispy. I looked for hot sauce but none was to be found

thats good to know. The heat is gonna kill those utr gaskets though. Id check on it within a year or so though just as a precaution.
