im actually looking for a townhouse near around chantilly/sterling/reston. i work near dulles/chantilly so Im trying to stay close t home. B/c of pricing I figured 400k only gets a Townhouse...condo's are too small and i dont want to pay a stupid condo fee. condo's are also more risky (i used to work for fannie mae and a mortgage loan officer before that ). I figured 400k was NOT enough for a house, but enough for a townhouse

Well to be honest w/ you...if you trying to stay out that way, then 400 will probably only get you a TH, but it will have an HOA fee instead of a Condo Fee. Out here where I live...it will get you a SFH. So if your big on your commute then hit up the area where John stays. Also South Riding is building some new Houses right off of rt 50. Good luck on your search. Also dont forget to check out the website I posted earlier. It might help.

R u referring you have $400K cash to buy a house? Or u r looking at $400K range? If u have $400K cash, u can probably buy a $1M house with that kind of down payment

This is the best time to purchase a house. The housing market is swinging over to a buyers market and the prices are the lowest that they are probably going to get.

Also keep in mind that VA has a freeze on building all NEW HOMES until at least most of the current ones on the market are sold. So this is def your right time to buy.
