Yes i'm sorry ,i did put the shims back in.The only thing the new hawk brakes don't have the metal indicator that lets you know when to change your pads.

What are the purpose of the shims anyways? Am I going to experience problems if I don't have them in?

the shims are supposed to prevent squeeling.
