What do you guys use to extract extra brake fluid from the reservoir?

For years I had a small plastic extractor that worked really well and did not leak, but the handle finally broke. I thought I got it at Winding Road Racing, but I do not see anything similar there and the auto parts stores here are coming up blank.

What do you use that works well and does not leak for pulling out extra brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir when you swap to newer/thicker pads at track days? Thanks!

PowerBleeder works great to pressure it out through the lines. Clears the old fluid from the entire system, not just the reservoir. If that's all you want to do Mytvac vacuum pump works well. Or a turkey baster.

As suggested a turkey baster would do the job just fine or you could even use a child's medicine syringe like they use to give babies cold medicine or the like.

I bought a pack of these on amazon a while back. Something like $10 for a 10pack.

Great for sucking fluid out of the brake/clutch reservoir's and power steering. Attach a small hose for more flexibility.

Yeah, that's the syringe I was trying to explain. Should work great,

I've used a turkey baster before. They just don't seal very well. These things are medical grade and get the job done.

Note, label which one is used for what so you don't contaminate fluids.

Awesome, thanks! That looks very similar to what I was using in the past. Sounds like it seals well for you too? That had a turkey baster at Advanced Auto parts, but we tested it with water and it leaked all over the place and the last thing I want is to leak brake fluid on my paint as I pull it out of the engine bay.

I have a 20ml syringe that I use. Nice and thin so it gets right to the bottom of the brake, clutch and power steering reservoirs.

If you have a pet shop (maybe?), or even horse/livestock feed shop (ie, Tractor Supply) nearby you can buy single units there for cents.

I tried the turkey baster and just made a mess of things, it's now in the bin. Don't waste your time or money.

I was thinking maybe Target or Wal Mart would have something, but I'll swing by a pet store or we have a place called Fleet Farm that might have them.

Don't worry about the turkey baster. After testing it in the store with water it was pretty obvious that would never work.

They also use those giant syringes for glue at furniture repair places and woodworking places. You could check if there is one of those near you.

A lab supply vendor can help. We used large syringes to inject gaseous samples into a gas chromatograph. Alpha Aesir and Sigma-Aldrich are two we used.

I picked up a 3 pack of syringes at Fleet Farm yesterday for about $3 which will probably last me a decade. You are supposed to thread a needle into the end, but I think they will work fine. They definitely seal a lot better than the one I was using and are even sterilized since they are for animal use. My brake fluid never had it so good.
