Cost/time/effort for getting ready for track
Cost/time/effort for getting ready for track
Who here has taken their G37S on an HPDE? Did you 'use up' a set of tires? Brakes? I'm trying to get a better idea of the real cost of an HPDE event, and what time/effort/money is necessary for prep. The local groups require a tech inspection one of a series of respected shops in the area. I'm trying to get my feet wet, but also trying to get an idea of what to expect before jumping in.
To go out and have some fun/learn, the Akebono's with a normal tire set up are fine. Just make sure to do a brake fluid flush to something better (Motul 600/660).
Biggest things to check before hand are all fluid levels and brake pads/rotors.
As you get into it more I would suggest getting better brake pads and tires. I like to run Carbotech brake pads (XP 10 fronts / XP 8 rears) and NT-01 tires. This gives a great amount of quick braking power and awesome grip.
There's a couple of good articles on the "must do's" for track days on the 370z forum too.

VIR? long or short course.. great track either way
really depends on a bunch of factors.. if this is your first time..
my suggestion is to go out there stock and see what you can learn from it and listen to your instructor..
this will give you an appreciation of your skill set along with the cars capability..
then upgrade from there as you see fit..
for my first time and this was many moons ago.. i just made sure my tires and brakes were in good order.. new fluids and had fun..
realized after on the benefits of suspension.. tires... and brakes upgrades from then on..
provided the basis of what i know now and what i need to upgrade for street and or track use..
pople these days just upgrade to upgrade cause its cool.. and great for their signatures..
