Drag Racing Noob ?'s

While I have done extensive research using the search functions,
I have seen different answers on the following questions:

1. Ideal shift points? Do I redline or until the torque drop off? I thought I read somewhere it was at 5.5k rpm?

2. Ideal launch rpm? 4k?

(Sure I have 7AT, and Using DS would probably be faster, but I have more fun with manual mode)

Discuss and give me your opinions, Keep in mind I am an extreme noob so if none of the above makes sense, I apologize.

ideal shift point.....omg you shift at redline; that is the ideal shift point.
the launch rpm depends on the traction, but 4k on street tires is too much.

I really hope you are drag racing at the track.

I don't know how you'd be able to launch at 4k if you have an auto trans. The most I have been able to foot brake my rpm's up to is about 1500, but I found that launching off idle worked best for me. Other people may differ, you kind of have to figure it our yourself through trial and error. Every track is different and your tires have a lot to do with the launch. If you want the fastest E.T. let the computer shift for you.

I launched once at 2k and heard a weird noise so will never go that high again. Guy at the track with same car said 1800 rpm is ideal but I would probably go 1500 rpm or even lower based off of slogoat's response next time I go. I never tried from idle so will try that next time I'm there.

Ok, idk where I pulled 4k from, but thank you. I will be sure to try.

Peak power on stock G's tend to be 7250... Peak power = ideal shift point, after that, you're not making anymore power.

for me 1900 rpms is the sweet spot. Leave auto in DS mode. It shifts at the right point everytime.
