Altitude and 1/4 mile times
Let me just say that it sucks racing at altitude with a naturally aspirated car, I mean I have known this for years but it still sucks. I took my car to Bandimere which is just west of Denver towards the mountains and was only able to get in 2 runs before the rain came. I did my first 2 runs right after I arrived, so my engine was running hot as its a 1 1/2 hr drive down to the track. Best run was a 15.43 at 91.74 mph uncorrected, ya that's a horrible time for you sea level racers but the track is right around 6000ft above sea level and the density altitude correction for the night was 8400ft, so the conditions today made it seem like I'm running my car at 8400ft above sea level, kind of sucks.
My car is an 09 37xS with CBE/HFC/Intake/Tune, this was my first time taking this car to the track but for a comparison, after correcting it for sea level my time would have been a 13.78 at 102mph. Not terrible but not the greatest either. For another comparison a G35 Couple was running 16.3-16.5 so about a full second slower. After my first two runs I let the car sit for while to cool down and by the time I was ready to run again, the rain hit. I will have to go back another day to try for a better time. I know I could shave off another couple tenths with a better launch.

I went up to Broomfield to visit my relatives and was shocked at the fact my car wouldn't even hardly break the tires loose at that altitude. I came back down to Vegas and it will smoke the tires through 3rd gear. Altitude definately kills a naturaly aspirated car, no doubt.

Ya the track in Denver is at 5900ft above sea level, and to make things worse, the weather conditions had the density altitude correction at 8400ft yesterday. So with the weather conditions it was like I was running my car at 8400ft above sea level. Kind of sucks but it was opening night at the track so I wanted to get my car out there.
