[quote=mikelr;3389526]In reality you don't know exactly what you gained since you have no dyno #'s from stock. On top of that you are taking a low # from one dyno and adding the current # from yet another dyno to come up with your +50 whp estimate..

first of all, in reality i do know what i gained. i have a dyno file from every mod i made after catback exhaust and a lightweight crank pulley. so with those 2 mods i did 243. the last time i dynoed my car on that dyno was after headers and i hit 283. do the math thats 40 hp. stay with me.

i then moved and got my car dyno tuned. i already had uprev but it was street tuned. with the dyno tune i went from 277 to 290 on a mustang dyno which reads less than a dynojet. so when i say i got 50 over stock i thought i was being over modest by saying i gained 10 from a cbe/crank pulley/ and an adjusted tune that got me 13 hp on a mustang dyno which would be a little more on a dynojet.

i worked at the speed shop i dynoed at, thats how i afforded to dyno it so many times. so you dont need to bring your knowledge to me. it takes ***** to do what you did but i guess when you hide behind a user name its easy to have an opinion. i just dont appreciate being insulted when you dont know my situation

Now we all know that dyno #'s are BS, especially comparing numbers from different dynos..
You ever stop and think about the fact that you may have lost hp with your cat back?? These VQ engines seem to be as fickle as forced induction engines when it comes to making power on the dyno,.. changes in VVTL and ignition timing based on atmospheric conditions have a big effect on the outcome of a dyno pull.
You asked why the IPL is able to get an additional 18 hp from basically a sport exhaust and a tune while those with Uprev and similar mods cannot? You are forgetting that Infiniti holds the keys to the VVTL system which is a powerful tuning tool, others such as Uprev have not gone down the VVTL path which limits their effectiveness.
Bottom line is you more then likely haven't gained 50hp from your bolt on mods. You should be happy with your .6 sec gain in the 1/4 mile, maybe if you were in the left lane the rift between the IPL's time and yours would be greater... so many variables in drag racing.
im not wasting my time on this

I highly doubt that Infiniti de-tuned the sedan engine by 2 hp. In fact, when they are manufacturing the engine itself, there's probably no distinction that this engine is for a coupe and that engine is for a sedan. They are interchangeable. Its probably a marketing game kinda like how store items are $4.99 or $9.99. Plus to add to the confusion, I think I heard that the G37 makes and extra 3hp at 60 mph do to ram air effect. So I guess a coupe going 60 is making 5 hp more then a sedan going 59.
ok, but like i said they have on their site and brochures the sedan is 328 the coupe is 330. so since you dont think infiniti didnt detune it, why do they put 328? where did that 2 hp go if eveything is the same then

Maybe there's a extra bend in the exhaust on the sedan?

^^ sedan wasn't detuned. There are even coupe drivers that have said the sedan pulls better than the coupe. The 2 hp, which, to be perfectly honest, is a negligible amount, was lost in the exhaust. Sedan's exhaust is quieter, and thus more restrictive than the coupe's.

Smile 304whp

2008 g37s coupe 5at here. I got all the bolt ons, including the m370. No tune. 93 oct. I dynoed 304whp/244wtq. Going to try running quarter mile in the next couple months. From dead stop, I'm dead even with a stock Lexus IS350 which is 13.3 quarter mile.

13.3 is pretty quick for a stock is350. I know they are geared for great launches out of a dig, but I thought they were a high 13 car stock.

I just watched a youtube video of an IS350 and a bad driver running a 15.2 1/4 mile. Easy to happen. Years ago, my buddies dad had a dodge viper and his first time down the 1/4 mile was like 14.9 lol. Finally started to figure it out and ran a 12.8. Seems like most guys were running around 13.7. There's so many variables when it comes to quarter mile times. Driver, weight reduction, full tank or 1/4 tank of gas, elevation, temp, humidity, traction, launch, etc....

well like you said 2 hp isnt that much and i said that also, im not claiming which one pulls harder, and to be honest when i see people say that, i can assume what level theyre on because when they compare stock vehicles they really think they can tell a difference and if you put it on the dyno it wont be more than 8 tq either way. who knows they might not have the sport seats in their sedan so they are softer and you sink back in your seat further and then in their mind they think they're behind a jet plane. ive only driven the loaner vehicles a few times so i cant really say that i know, but im just trying to be reasonable. if infiniti is making their sedans faster than coupes then infiniti is screwing up and im pretty sure no one will think that. so idk.

Dude... you better grow some thicker skin if you are going to hang on automotive forums.
You may have observed a 50 hp change in dyno readings on your car but your #'s aren't 50 whp over stock.
Do a little research, whats the average whp observed on a stock G on a Dynojet?? 260-270whp...
Your 290 whp on the Mustang dyno sounds about right for your mods but on the Dynojet there was either something wrong with your car or the dyno on those initial runs.
My comments where not meant to insult you and I'm not hiding... it's got nothing to do with having ***** and more about brains.
From where I'm sitting your situation is you used to work at a speed shop and for some reason don't anymore...
In the future try not to take others comments as attacks on your intelligence but more as a view from another perspective. As I'm sure your 20 something and think you know it all (evident in your response), there are many out there you can learn from.

you came off cocky and still are. and i moved after i graduated so....

the dynojet i used does read lower than other dyno jets. but if i gain 10 hp on a dyno that reads lower, that means it gains at least 10 on one that reads higher unless your suggesting it will read lower, which makes perfect sense. youre helping me make my case.

i dont feel i know everything but what if i told you that you didnt gain the power you did? but i have seen cars dyno sheets on this forum that were similar to my numbers with their mods so im not sure what your trying to prove.

Enjoy that thing dude

5AT stock is 14.0 quarter mile
You said you gained ~50whp
You ran 13.5 quarter mile
Numbers add up right
Your car is .5 faster
Enjoy your car dude
5AT dynoes 240-260whp stock
After all my mods i dynoes 304whp
I will run 1/4 mile in the next couple months and let you guys know
i know this is not accurate but me clocking it 0-60 with a timewatch i get 4.9-5.2 constant.

You can't go by ET in a range that small. A small 2.5 tenths reduction in the 60', or slightly different DA could change that ET by as much as a 1/2 second. Basically coming off the line with a 2.250 short time, and then nailing a 2.000 short time. There's your 1/2 second.....

Trap speed/weight would be a MUCH better indicator of actual gains over stock......
