First time at the Drag Strip

Took the car to the drag strip for the first time. Car is bone stock with 2700 miles and the temperature was 42 degrees. My best time of the night was my first one:

R/T - .477
60' - 2.075
330 - 5.882
1/8 - 8.969
mph - 80.22
1000 - 11.585
1/4 - 13.810
mph - 101.80

Overall i'm happy. I need to work on my launch, but the car was running great and chirping 2nd and 3rd gear.
I weigh over 300lbs, so I think this car should be running low 13.6 or so.

13.8 1/4 mile time sounds like what Motor Trend and other vehicle testers are getting too.

So, how did you do your launch? VDC on or off?

I ran at the old Moroso Motorsports park in Palm Beach Gardens.

I took VDC off.

vdc off, for sure. not bad times. obviously the R/T can be improved, but for a 1st time you can't expect too much...

With a quicker 60' time, you should be able to do 13.6-5 without a problem.

Just an update. Went back to the track last night with the wife's WRX. She has a 2011 and swears up and down that its faster then my car. she had me drive it so we could do an honest comparo. The fastest I got it was 14.2 @ 95mph and i had to dump the clutch at over 5k rpms to get that launch. She's a little upset as she thought she would beat me easily. i think she believes i let off (i didn't).
Oh well. I know this isn't G37 related, but just sharing a little tidbit.

well, not sure if a '11 wrx is actually faster, but it might FEEL faster due to all the torque down low . . .

Does she have the STI?

Edmunds says the WRX Turbo does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds with a stick. The WRX STI does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds.

Edmunds rates the 2009 G37 sedan at 5.4 seconds, so I suspect what she's feeling is the lower end torque and slightly better 0-60 range. I think your G is taking the WRX in the top end.

So now you can tell her the WRX is (sometimes) faster and she'll be happy.

Car and Driver got a 0-60 in 4.7(dumped clutch at redline) in a 2009 WRX sedan, 1/4 mile in 13.7 at 99 mph. Edmunds.com tested like 4 different new WRX STi sedans and COULD NOT get it to go 0-60 in less than 5.5 seconds or crack into the 13s in the 1/4 mile, they felt as if it was weirdly low on boost. So WRX is just as fast if not faste than the STi off the line, at higher speeds I would expect the STi to pull ahead...

Not a STI, a regular WRX base model.
Even though redline is at 6500, the car feels like it has no power past 5700 rpms.

Just need to figure out the optimal shift points for the car.

It maybe that they are lighter and boost comes on rapidly around 3000-3500rpm that makes them feel faster. WRXs only go quick with high clutch dumps, which ultimately will result in some part of the gearbox blowing. I miss my rex a bit, but its nothing special at all compared to the G37 (even though it was an 11sec car).

A 2.0X 60' is really good, and your ET and MPH are right there with a lot of us.

Good job, it's fun isn't it!

Great times! You should post a timeslip if you got one and also there is a section on the website somewhere where everyone lists their times if you want to check it out.
