You mean "replacing" your OEM Y-pipe? The Y-pipe has no emission fittings so there should be no issues. From all the data I've read the Y-pipe has the most minimal effect on sound & gains, I think I'd spend the $250 elsewhere, but that's me

I don't see how that would be a problem. The Catalytic converters play the biggest role in affecting emissions. A y pipe shouldn't really change....anything, unless it is resonated. Out of curiosity, why are you changing it?

just to free up some air fow maybe some minimal hp gains and as well to slightly change the exhaust sound.

I don't think a new y pipe will do ANY of those things. At least, if it does, there's no way you'll notice.Imo, you'd be better off doing high flow cats/intakes/axleback exhaust changes than a Y pipe.

Other guys, step in here, let me know if I'm incorrect.

Agreed^^ If you have an aftermarket exhaust like my TopSpeed that utilizes the factory Y pipe then it would probably show a bit of gain but changing the stock OEM Y pipe while keeping your exhaust stock really won't accomplish much since the rest of the exhaust is equally restrictive, the pipes going into the OEM exhaust cans are puny
If you find a bargain I suppose it'd be worth it but really only if you're planning to modfy the rest of your exhaust too.

Basically, to sum it up. Changing a Y pipe has zero benefits if that's all you're doing. It is literally just pipe shaped like a Y. The only changes you can do would be to either change the material (better heat retention), or make it bigger (less backpressure). However, the material would net you <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<1hp, and making it bigger would not change the MUCH bigger restrictions you get from the OEM cats and muffler.

IMO, save your money, buy yourself something that will make a difference.

I thought I read that the ED Y pipe did good if placed with some cats. It held the backpressure good and didn't loose the TQ like most aftermarket Y's do. For me...I'm looking at getting the ED to pair with other components. But on it's own, it's a crap investment like the others have stated.
