i always had questions about..
if I am doing it right.. but with lots of people who went through the steps before helping you, giving you suggestion and good comments, makes things easier and feel safer doing it. I think this I would say is most important thing.

If you're really doing a free book, I wouldn't have anything technical in it. Unless you're picking a type of car, there is just too much variety in the possibilities. I think something like this could truly benefit newbs the best.

It would be much more about what kind of car do you have, what is important to you, what will your finances and geography will allow, etc. Next I would talk about online forums and how to use them(how to intro yourself, search, how to act, etc). Forums are still the best info out there for mods, but people don't use them correctly.

Then finish with "research research research".

^^True, scope creep ftl.

The questions I see repeated the most are about rims, tires and suspension. So maybe explain how wheel and tire sizes work and then the different suspension components and what they do and what you can do to modify them.

While I don't particularly care about the Law, you should have some section(s) touching on this.

I think a section on wheel fitment is very crucial, something about bolt pattern, offsets, wheel widths, what tires to fit etc.. Of course, don't get too technical with the math.

Another section on the ways and effects of lowering your ride (camber, tire wear, re-aligning etc..). Cutting OEM Springs vs Lowering Springs vs Coilovers.

Then you can talk about how to make the car louder and the side effects (rasp, cops, emissions etc..)

Those are pretty much every mod any car out there would want regardless of make, and would make a nice modding101 article.

Best of Luck

Definitely some do's and don't would be great. I know I'm in the beginner boat on this as well and it can be very confusing trying to figure these things out. Like what you need, don't need and why. A list of sites with information would be good too.

Good luck

prior to my car i have NEVER done ANYTHING to a car. No oilchanges or anything. I think the most important think to do before you mod anything is to BEFORE you buy it, read a DIY over and over till you feel confident and understand everything.

Also know, most of the time the installation wont be the exact same as the DIY (for my anyways). Always be confident in yourself. Most of the things you are gonna do (coilovers, intake, exhaust, HID's ect) is more or less idiot proof. Dont force anything, take your time, be confident!
