Y-Pipe Is Rusted, Which Replacement for G37X Sedan?

Hello,

My car has been much louder the last 6 weeks. I had a mechanic check it while I got an oil change done and he said that the Y-Pipe is fully rusted and needs to be replaced. He suggested I save money and order the Walker brand Y-Pipe from Rockauto. He can replace it for $125 and will also weld the flanges too as said those are fully rusted too.

He also said the cats look rusted and will probably need to be replaced in a few years. I would like to keep the car for many more years as currently it is only at 63k miles. I googled around on Walker for our cars but couldn't find any reviews on how it ages over time with rust since I live in the NE.

Thanks!

I replaced my rusted out one with the Megan Y pipe, I think it was around $120. Quality is very good, IMO.

When he says your cats look rusty, I assume he means the heatsheilds. If so, you can honestly just ignore that. I'm sure the cats themselves are fine.

Run the cats until you get a CEL. Just because they look rusted on the outside doesn't mean they are bad on the inside. Judging from your mileage, you can get much more use out of them.

From what i've read, the Walker brand is pretty solid for replacement of oem exhaust componenets. They specialize only in exhausts so Im sure they use good material...

Megan y pipe will do the trick. But I hear they use inferior materials.

I ran one (mega) for a couple months when I snapped the fixed y-pipe bolt on my car. No issues really.

Walker? Quality? In same sentence? are we talking about same walker?
I was looking for quality in this pic, but could not find it.

wow that looks eerily close to the Tomei y-pipe!

yep, their products don’t look good, but their materials are superior to **** like Megan or ISS

The megan seemed pretty high quality to me, what exactly is wrong with it? It looked like a much higher quality piece than the OEM one...

Sorry for late reply, for some reason not getting alert on responses. This makes sense, and luckily I just passed emissions so don't have to worry about it for another 2 years. I do have a rattling issue which can't tell if heatshields or cats but only hear it when idle which is rare since I hardly drive.

Which brand would you recommend, that would be direct fit with the OEM cats and catback? I live in NE so really want something that will do well with the salt.

Thanks!

Best stainless quality have seen was on Tanabe. It is fully 304 stainless build (made in Japan), including flanges (most other manufactures uses mild steel ones). It will outlast the car. Not sure if it will fit AWD

Tanabe does not make Y-Pipe or even mid pipe for the G37 AWD. What are my next best options? What do you think about Stillen? Otherwise may just go with Walker since it is near OEM dimensions.

If a stock Y pipe from an AWD Coupe will work, I'll fix you up.
We'd just need to meet up somewhere between where you're at and Raleigh NC.

So, if someone know if a G37x Coupe's Y is the same as or different from a G37x Sedan, please chime in.

All the ISR Y-pipes I can find are not for an X/AWD. What is the part number you have and where did you get it?

i know a lot of sites says it doesn't fit but it will.
I made a video comparing my friend's ISR and Megan Racing y pipes. He's awd and had both on his car.
he has the ISR headers also and ran into a bit of clearance issues with the ISR y pipe. It was touching the chassis on the driverside, but didn't have that problem with the megan racing. he eventually bought a HBP resonated y pipe.
