Going to be installing Some test pipes on my G37 tomorrow morning. Took an entire day just reading about the demon bolts. Any suggestions about tackling these? Or if anyone's done an install themselves, any pointers? Oh and I plan on taking those out first, then moving on to the y pipe bolts. Hopefully it goes smooth. Going to soak them in Liquid Wrench tonight, and tomorrow morning!

 

There's a "Pre-Soak" that several are fond of. I can't remember what it was exactly, but I think it Acetone and something else......

 

It's been about 3 years since I did mine. I only had about 15k on my G at the time so my experience I'm sure was better than most. I soaked the hell out of those bolts with PB Blaster the night before and hours before starting the next day so I think that's a good call. My tip would be to make sure you have tons of extensions. I thought I had plenty but ended up having to go buy a few more. The extension I rigged up I think had two swivel joints and was probably about 2ft long with a 18" breaker bar on the end. I broke two of the extension so buy some good quality ones for this... Don't get the Harbor Freight special. Protect your front fenders with a cover or blanket so you don't slip off the bolt and put a nice gash in your paint. Good luck!

 

50:50 ATF and Acetone

 

Heat is your friend. A few months back we were pulling the engine from my cousin's 8th gen Civic. In order to pull it you have to drop the subframe out the bottom. The subframe bolts were STUCK. Even my 1200 ft lb breakaway impact wouldn't move them. I put heat to the bolts with a torch for 15 seconds (didn't want to go longer for fear of melting the subframe bushings) and with just the slightest hammering with the impact they broke loose.

We use heat on a daily basis to break bolts loose at work. If you don't have an oxy/acetylene, or oxy/propane set up go buy yourself a MAPP gas torch. It's all I have available at my house and I have used it to break several stuck bolts loose.

Got the pipes installed, had to use a saw for the y pipe bolts. But the demon bolts came off no problem. Just wondering if it's normal for the test pipes to throw smoke. I'm guess that's from the new setup and everything.
