Everyone has suggested all the possible options. A muffler delete on the sedans is far from obnoxious. If that is too loud, add a short bottle style resonator to the straight piping.

Or, replace the OEM resonator for an aftermarket resonator. Nitro15 had the best option with replacing the OEM mufflers with an aftermarket set.

I bought this exhaust off of ebay because it's 304 stainless and has the beveled exhaust tips that I like. I know of a very good local metal fabricator (he specializes in DSM stuff, but his work is amazing) that is going to modify the exhaust to work on my G37 sedan. It will be several hundred bucks to have it modified, but I'm hoping to have about half the money in this exhaust as buying a new Ark grip:

Car will not smell like fumes and those are the best bang for $$ for power, I run them and have no issues with smog, and am fully bolted ( Yes headers) Granted I'm not in CA, In Mass

But sounds like you have zero options.. unless you change the mid pipe to a coupes, the resonators on the coupes are smaller.

Do you know if the coupe mid-pipe will fit the sedan with little or no modification? After a quick search, there seems to be a discrepancy on whether or not it will work with the sedan. I'll dig deeper but would love to know! Thank you.

I've had high flow cats on various cars before. It's the same story every single time, a couple of years go by, and they don't work as well as they used to, and definitely start smelling like fumes after a bit. Nothing but OEM will pass smog in California. There is no such thing as a high flow 50 state legal catalytic converter.

I might just have to look for axle back exhaust. I'm not a fan of removing stock resonators, because I'm afraid that will increase droning inside, like it has so many times before for me in different cars.

I wouldn't waste the $$ on a axle back, Just me tho. An if you changed the mid pipe to a coupe, you car would sound like a stock coupe :/ The drone would be that of a coupe.

Has it been verified yet that the coupe midpipe fits on the sedan?

I've built many custom exhausts and my car is a budget build so you may find more things interesting

Check out my exhaust build for some suggestions

I will say HFCs are your best choice for improving sound and power, replacing the muffler's will be the best choice for sound but not as good for power.

How much are you looking to spend and I will give you some lists of exhausts in your budget.

Side note: just swapping out Y-pipes wouldnt give you quite the same sound, the reason why the coupes all sound different and the FX also is the fact they have a single inlet dual outlet muffler running perpendicular to the car and us sedan owners have dual single in single out mufflers running parallel to the car.

There are a bunch of G37 muffler delete vids. Here's one.

Based on what I've gathered so far, I'd have to say no. The mid-pipe on the coupe and sedan taper off in different directions in order to mate up with their respective muffler(s). The muffler configuration seems to be the biggest difference between the two in regards to exhaust sound. Hopefully someone can confirm with absolute certainty because I would love to know as well.

They do, I have done it, the rear section will need a little mod to connect the the sedan mufflers but nothing crazy. This was my car with all stock exhaust ( ex the mid pipe) was exoticspeeds( RWD) which came off my AWD coupe

^^^ I think that sounds really good! Just like the coupe imo. Were you happy with it when you had just the mid-pipe on or was it only noticeable from outside of the car?

From: Framingham Ma,
^^^ Thank you, I was happy I thought is sounded really good, I'm glad I did it always gives me an option if a decided to go back "stock" I can just slap the stock mufflers back on and sell the ARK ones.

The tone in the car was a little different just a deeper sound," Like my coupe was" but other than that no one would think it wasn't the stock sound, my parents, nor the wife could tell any difference, LOL

outside well that was different, tone was veru much deeper than the stock, even the cold starts sounded really good, nice rumble

This really makes me want to give it a shot. The first video you posted with just the mid-pipe is exactly what I'm after. I wonder how difficult it would be for a shop to cut out the stock resonators and replace them with a more aggressive aftermarket type. Maybe a pair of Vibrant resonators?

I've been in discussion with a local exhaust shop about doing something to the stock system, whether it be the resonators or the mufflers. Haven't pulled the trigger yet though. I'm hoping it's just a simple cut and weld. I'm not sure what that piece of metal is that appears to be connecting the two resonators together though. Is it a brace of some sort?

From: Framingham Ma,
That piece is nothing, just a brace or something no after market systems have that. I'm 100% sure if you changed the resonators to shorter one you would get more sound. But remember the coupe exhaust not only have smaller resonators but the piping is slightly bigger, like .25 inches or something goofy like that.
