Magnaflow x pipe vs

Hey guys my first post here and been mostly a lurker here. I have a 2012 G37x and I have been doing some research on getting more a growl out of the exhaust without actually buying an aftermarket exhaust. Most popular ones I've seen is either getting a berk hfc or getting a magnaflow x pipe model 11385 and 2 universal mufflers preferably magnaflow. I was wondering why they would suggest magnaflow 11385 instead of something like this below

Amazon.com: Lawson Industries 66922 Stainless Steel Stamped X-Pipe: Automotive Amazon.com: Lawson Industries 66922 Stainless Steel Stamped X-Pipe: Automotive

Or

Amazon.com: Thrush 17637 Welded Muffler: Automotive Amazon.com: Thrush 17637 Welded Muffler: Automotive

The 1st link is to an actual x pipe and the second one is a cheaper version of magnaflow 11385.

My question is what is the difference between the 1st link which is the actual x pipe and the magnaflow type of muffler welding it on as a x pipe far as sound goes? Will there be any difference the 2? Thank you for looking.

There's a few X variations, Magnaflow has a resonated X pipe (which may be very similar to that Thrush setup but not sure). They also have a regular X pipe, that is mandrel bent, this is preferred over that stamped steel version for best flow and noise cancellation. Magnaflow seems toi get pretty good reviews as far as quality and performance, Thrush has been around forever but can't say how well their reputation has held up.

Thank you for replying. Last question. Between the resonated x pipe like the thrush and the regular x pipe, which will sound louder? with rasp or not?

I have the Magnaflow 11386 Stainless Steel 2.5" Oval Muffler with Z1 HFC and a custom "y" pipe running thru stock resonators and thru stock muffler and it sounds great! I got an axle back TopSpeed setup that I will be installing in the next few weeks. Not sure how it will sound but thought for $250 it was worth a try.... I'll post more as I get it done. I am looking for a little more noise but this currently sounds excellent with no rasp or drone whatsoever... and not too loud.

What do you mean by custom y pipe? do you mean you made the diamter bigger?

I didn't make it a "Y" but two separate pieces that join into the Magnaflow muffler. I purchased flanges, mandrel bent curves, short flex section and welded it all up to go into the Magnaflow muffler then the two outlets into the stock resonators. I think I used 2.25" or 2.5" pipe.... whatever the diameter of the HFC pipe was.... not sure off the top of my head.

I ended up putting on the 1st link type of x pipe and didn't delete and kept everything stock. It is a tad little lighter and came out disappointed with the sound. I want it little bit louder I think I will just buy some magnflow mufflers and just weld that on there without modifing anything else and see if that will improve the sound.

If your going to look at the Magnaflow mufflers, also check out these....

https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-sed...he-fi-cbe.html

One set option is the same mufflers used on the Fast Intentions CBE i believe and sound great. Nice and deep at idle and lower RPMs then they roar like a tiger at higher RPMs, if that's the sound your after. There's other options as well....

Thank you for the suggestions. The original poster on that thread said enlarging the pipe diameter from the resonator end to the muffler to 2.5 inches. Do you think it will make a difference if i just weld on the muffler and leaving the pipe diamter alone?

If you want louder at a low cost just unbolt your mufflers. Buying another set wouldn't be that smart in my opinion. If the volume is good after you do a muffler delete then I'd get a set of straight pipes made with a pair of tips in your choice.
