Test Pipe questions

Hey guys, So I currently have a muffler delete that I am getting bored of (too quiet) and I thought about maybe a res delete but it sounds too raspy and unrefined for me. So now I am thinking test pipes but I live in Chi-town so they of course won't pass emissions.. so would I have to swap back the stock cats like a month before doing the test or what? Also, How is the smell from the pipes? Its not like going to make it unpleasant to drive the car? and Is it possible to swap the cats and pipes by yourself or is it a pain in the a$$?

Muffler delete adds quite a bit of sound. Paired with test pipes, it is stupidly loud. Like attention-***** loud. I would recommend against it based on experience.

To answer your question, though, smells like *** even from inside the cabin. You could prob swap the cats yourself if you have the right set of tools and some patience, but it really is a PITA to swap out cats, especially since you have 2. Though I have read that you can buy some defoulers and weld it on to trick your o2 sensor where it won't trigger a CEL (assuming you're doing a obd2 scan test for emissions)

You think it will be too loud? I am talking about a sedan not a coupe so it might be a bit different, and is it going to ruin the car with the smell? I just don't want to buy a full exhaust system, I just want a more louder exhaust, seems like I don't have many options..

Hmm, I'm not too sure about the sedan then. My axleback is pretty much a muffler delete and it added a LOT of sound on my coupe. When you say it's too quiet, is it substantially too quiet? Or just slightly too quiet?

When I installed my axleback, it sounded great from outside but it was slightly too quiet from the inside of the cabin. I got a test pipe and it was just stupidly loud. If your exhaust set up at the moment is significantly too quiet, perhaps test pipes won't be so bad. With that being said though, the stench ruined the experience for me....anytime at a stop light or reversing, it was nauseating

High flow cat is the next level down in terms of how much more noise is produced, perhaps you wanna find a used set to try it out?
