Y Pipe

So I have recently purchased the Top Speed exhuast for my wife's G and as many of you know, it does not include the Y pipe. Just curious to know how much if any would it change the sound of the exhaust note from brand to brand. i.e. I see Megan, Manzo, J2 Racing, Fairlady, generic no name.....haven't done much homework as my stillen exhaust came full cat back.....but honestly they all look the same and have the same features (304 stainless with mandrel bends).

Did you just buy the exhaust from Top Speed? I ask because they have had product on back order for a while now. Citing a strike in the Port of Los Angeles as the cause.

To be honest, the stock Y-Pipe on our car does not appear to be a weak link as it is essentially the same 350Z HR Y-Pipe that people used to put on the 1st generation G as an upgrade.

The Top Speed Y-Back matches perfectly to the factory Y-Pipe.

I believe an outfit called "Exhaust Depot" also makes one that works well with the TS exhaust, but I'm still not convinced many of these aftermarket Y-Pipes buy you much over stock.

Exhaust Depot was a Y-pipe that matched, but unless you find a used one you're out of luck
They're no longer around
The Y-pipe won't net much in sound or gains, TBH I'd just install the Y-back and be happy

ahhhh, that makes sense. I'm starting to wonder if Top Speed will ever stock the exhaust for the sedan again. This unit seems like the perfect compromise of cost/performance on our cars. It would be interesting to see a dyno for this one, but I'm pretty sure it does not exist as a stand alone item (i.e. probably includes cat and intake mods as well). When I spoke to them on the phone, they said they generally tell customers to expect a 10% increase in HP, but we all know that is not correct. 10-12HP seems more realistic as this is between the documented dynos for the Stillen 2.5 inch full CBE and the Axle back only unit from Tanabe.

Tell us what you think once its installed as well. Exhaust reviews are always welcome since this is one of the most popular performance mods for our car.

Funny you mention Stillen as thats whats on mine so it will be a nice comparison. Gonna aim to install on Sun.

I have the topseed also and added the manzo y pipe as well just to make it a "full CBE". For what I spent it sounds amazing. Spent $700 total for the topspeed and manzo y pipe new. Installed was easy and took less than an hour on jacks. For the price I paid it sounds amazing. Didn't really notice any better performance.

Would be interesting to see your review since you also have the Stillen. Is the Stillen 'drone' bad as many make it out to be? Stillen is pretty much local for me, so I would like to use them if possible, but the TSP system is still the best for the money. I'm curious to see how you like the new TSP setup. Also talk about the build quality vs Stillen.

Ok got around to polishing up and installing over the weekend. Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase and the build quality of the TopSpeed is top notch. Only thing I didnt care for is the cut tips as imo they seem to be a little thin. Not sure about how they would hold up if they got scraped but luckily the wife's car is not lowered.

As with any and ALL exhaust notes its a personal preference. I persoanlly was impressed by the sound, gives it a nice sutible deep growl, it is quieter then the Stillen, and at times you almost forget it was on the car as the R2C intake would drown it out pending rmp range. I personally favor my Stillen setup as it is louder and I can hear the car better; but by no means is the TopSpeed slouching. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone personally as I feel you could add some HFC's or down pipe and really bring the exhaust alive. I'm a very satisfied customer and have 0 regrets in the purchase.

Glad to hear that it arrived safely and that you are happy with it. I have to apologize for not polishing it before I sent it. I normally clean up anything that I sell. I went back to do it and the warehouse guys had already boxed it all up. It was good for me since I didn't have to box it myself but... Karma, though...I just bought something too and they came dirty as hell. Ha!
