Low-Budget exhaust mods
Low-Budget exhaust mods
My budget to spend on my 08 G35 sedan is relatively low but I would like to make my exhaust a smidge louder. I love the tone and overall sound of the stock exhaust but I just want to hear it more. Do you guys have any thoughts on what could be done to open things up a bit?
Replace the mufflers with something aftermarket.
Avoid the 'axleback' approach if you are looking to save money.
Magnaflow and others make performance muffler replacements.
On my first gen sedan, I replaced only the resonators and left the stock mufflers and the combination of the two sounded really good.
In looking at the physical size of the current sedans mufflers, I've often wondered if replacing those with mufflers from a first gen sedan would sound better. Note that the first gen sedans used very small, high flow mufflers, but the resonators were used to 'muffle' the sound.
Current gen uses what looks like very non-restrictive resonators, with huge mufflers.
The exhaust diameter on the current sedan also looks small in comparison to the first gen, but I've never measured the two. I think the axlebacks like Tannabe are 1 7/8 tubing, which is on the smaller side.
