Intake Question

Hey every1, I just picked up a 2012 G37xS sedan on an 18 month lease. I wanted to put an intake on it to start and was thinking of R2C in black nickel as its on sale and I could resell it after I return the vehicle. Ive seen a bunch of them for sale in the classified section though. Some people say they want a switch and some say they are way to loud. Is there any reason why so many are selling them? Do you guys think its a good intake that nets a decent gain? Thanks for the help everyone as this is my first G.

Check the intake & exhaust section. Do not expect much in the way of HP gains from an intake.

Good Luck.

I want straight line speed first as it handles pretty well. Dont wanna hear any clunking from the end links as it was so annoying on my WRX I almost took the sway bars off and I had different sets of end links n they both made a bunch of noise.

If you are looking to improve straight line speed an intake shouldnt make any appreciable improvement. If you are looking for better intake noise and something to pop the hood and show people, it should serve that purpose well. Good luck. I'm looking for some bang for the buck mods as well.

cheers! Mike

Yeah I was hoping an intake with a tune possible netting me a decent gain plus the added intake noise without it being 2 loud. Dont care about showing people how nice it looks lol.

Instead of intake, look into a full exhaust w/ Test pipes. That will be a lot of gain if you really want straight line speed. Intake is a myth that it adds. Unless you can prove it w/ a before and after dyno.

Exhaust with test pipes is gonna be quite expensive though isnt it? Is there an exhaust test pipe setup that wont be to loud as I will have a baby in the car here and there without any drone? The test pipes are in place of the cats? Not sure what they are exactly.

All my friends with babies love driving/riding around in car with an exhaust. Drone == soothing == sleeping baby.

This is true. Seriously. Baby's like loud exhausts... it puts them to sleep. It's wives and neighbors who don't like the rumble.

Unless you're doing your own work, swapping exhaust components on an 18 month rental doesn't seem like a practical idea. (Neither does a 1.5 year lease, or any lease IMO, but people have their reasons.)

And unless you're going for a long-tube intake, your short-ram is purely for noise. All gains are in your head... not that there's anything wrong with that. And it has the benefit of being a fully reversible DIY project. Get the R2C and enjoy it. Sell it when you're done.

Completely agree on all points. My daughter LOVES riding in my G.

As far as intakes go, i went with K&N for one reason.....ease of install. I have no desire to spend hours installing a gen3 to gain 7hp...maybe. I like the sound...that's it.

Also. I completely agree with the sway bar comment above. Hotchkis sways are HANDS DOWN the best felt difference for money spent. Everyone that I have talked to says sways we're the one mod they could feel the most improvement.

My advice...get the sways then R2C or typhoons.

Happy modding!

Not sure what I wanna do now. Got the lease so I could get into a G37 since the car is $45k and the payment would be outrageous. So lease first and buy later if I really like it or when the new model comes out and I like it better then jump into a new one and get rid of the old G.
