Is running an exhaust & CAI & HFC's safe (without a tune)??

Last week I bought a 2010 G37x sedan. I put a Tanabe axle back on it today....and plan to add intakes and HFC's as soon as next week.

My question is this.....is it "safe" to run this setup without a tune? Will the car run ok? Will I throw a code or CEL?

I don't have a problem getting a tune. But the nearest UpRev tuner is 3 hours away. Are there any other alternatives when it comes to tuning? Or will I be ok without a tune?

Is there a way I could pull the ECU and send it away to get tuned? Is there any way I could tune it myself if a company has a unit that is pre programmed?

I understand that a dyno tune is the best way to go....but there is no place near me that does it I don't think. I am in near Pittsburgh PA.

Can I run this setup safely without a tune?

OK. I will help make this easier.

A) You should be fine running the combination of an exhaust, intakes, and HFC's without a tune.

B) Running this setup without a tune is a bad idea, and this is why.......

C) I am pretty sure you will be the VERY FIRST PERSON to run exhaust/intake/HFC (mild sarcasm)

Let's make it even easier:

-Running a CAI, exhaust and HFCs won't damage your G. If installed correctly, the ECM will adjust performance to OEM limits.

OEM limits? Does that mean (without a tune) I won't see any gains from these bolt ons?

ECU learning can only change a limited amount however, that said we've seen enough dynos/AFR's with various NA mods to show nothing really puts you in a danger zone. Still if you go through all the expense to bolt on, the tune is the icing on the cake. To not tune would be like having sex and not finishing... literally.

Well what are my options for tuning if the nearest tuner is 3 hours away

No not true. Your car will blow up... jk. You simply won't be able to maximize your gains unless you get a tune.

I heard if you have stillen CAI, CBE and HFC you will be fine without a tune because all the testing they claimed they've done, I am not sure about assorted combos.

I should be getting stillen CAI and CBE done on my 2012 next week and I don't think I'll be doing a tune any time soon. My car only have 600 mile on it now, I will wait when it reaches 60,000 miles or so and eventuaully I will get a turbo then time for a tune

you are 100% safe without running a tune. You could do amost every single "bolt on" without a tune and be safe. Its just highly recommended for your car to run to its fullest and get the most performance out of your engine and the mods you paid for, to get a tune~

I have had my 2001 Corvette tuned many times as I have Heads, Cam, NO Cats, and every single bolt on you can have. Amyway, I have never had this car tunes, YET. I just got it last week. However, tuning on my Vette made a HUGE difference, even when almost stock it made it feel like a different car.

i would imagine that you would want to tune to get the benefit from all the mods. The Tuning is a MAJOR part of this, BUT, the tuning is all about WHO IS DOING IT! If they are good, then it will be great, if not, your stuck with what they have done.

I would imagine these cars can't be THAT hard to tune with the Minor Mods your addding. Get heads and a Cam, then it gets tricky.

These mods are all about air flow in and out, so tuning will allow you to set air fuel ratios and other things like this. I am a VETTE guy, but now I am all into my new G37.

I don't think I will go crazy on this car, but I live in Dallas and Jotech is a great Tuner from what I heard and he also races his car and won the big race last month and ran a 9.XX in the 1/4, so he walks the walk!

Scary!!

But no where in that post mentions whether or not the car is tuned with all that mod combo. Most likely the car was tuned but still ended up in disaster, there might be something else contributed to the problems. So watch out even if you car is tuned.
