Mid pipe & muffler options w/ XYZ pipe?

I currently have Berk HFCs and want to replace the OEM Y pipe with the Motordyne XYZ. Since the XYZ exits at 3", I would like to replace the remaining exhaust components to match the increased diameter.

After some searching, it looks like my only options (other than custom) is the Tanabe mid pipe and mufflers?

The XYZ is a Y pipe, not X or H so it's dual 2.5" into single 3" back to dual 2.5" (i think) mufflers.

i know,, but going from 3" to 2.5 inch will cause a bottle neck and restrict the exhaust. IMO get a full catback rather than just a y pipe, i had test pipes and a y pipe for a while. Then went to a catback. Trust me just go straight to the catback

how does going from single 3" to dual 2.5" cause a bottle neck? area for 3" pipe is a little less than area for two 2.5" pipes...

Just going with a complete CBE will be the best solution, guaranteed.

so, it appears that the fujitsubo legalis r is mid pipe + muffler only which should bolt up to the XYZ pipe as it normally reuses the OEM Y pipe.

unfortunately, the tein website lists the legalis r mid pipe diameter to be 60.5mm which is ~2.4in...

sorry, it would bottle neck if you went from 3-2.5 inch. Which you arent. Just get a full exhaust. Its much easier (and in the the end better for performance) to sort out. And X or H pipe will get a bit more power outta the car

i know you keep saying that single 3" into dual 2.5" is restrictive but i don't understand the logic behind this. can you explain your reasoning?

i said that becuase it your go from 2.5 inch, to 3 inch, to 2.5 inch (which will happen because most parts are 2.5 inch for this car) you create a bottle neck. But what im saying it, 3" is too large for a N/A car. You will lose power because you lose some of the scavanging effect N/A motors need.

i agree that dual 2.5" into 3" (XYZ pipe) is theoretically restrictive. however, Motordyne posted fairly thorough test results (better than any other exhaust company i've come across anyways) why they decided on dual 2.5" to single 3" for the XYZ pipe:

MY350Z.COM Forums - View Single Post - JIC Ti - 80mm OK for N/A?

now, in the same post, he said that there were no gains to be had after the 3" exit as long as there were no extra back pressure introduced (i.e. smaller pipe diameter, restrictive mufflers, etc).

for the mid pipe, 3" matches the XYZ pipe. splitting into dual 2.5" should be theoretically ok since dual 2.5" flows more than a single 3".

as for single 3" being too large for V6 n/a, what is the effective diameter for dual 2.5" in a X pipe at the point of merge? it is less than separate dual 2.5" (due to the two pipes being joined at X) but probably similar to a single 3".

so it turns out that the Tanabe mid pipe does NOT work with the Motordyne XYZ. the xyz exit flange sits about 1.5" lower than where the Tanabe mid pipe needs it to be.

sucks.
