Installed Intake today

Just installed my new Stillan Gen 3 intake today on mt 2010 G37xS Sedan. Was such a nice day here figured it would only take me a couple of hours. 6 hours later...Its done! Fits great, too tired to go for a ride and test it out.

Hardest part was cutting the holes larger. I was parked too far away to use my compressor tools, my dremel died, so I had to use a sanding wheel on my cordless drill and tin snips to do it. Instructions said ot take off the front bumper, but I quickly realized it was better to just do it through the grill. WEll, not so quick as it took me 90 minutes to give on on getting it off, so I didn;t break anything. Would go much quicker if I did it again. AT least now I know how to get the grill out.

MY new Stillen exhaust goes on next.

That's not to say I didn't start it up and make sure I didn;t have any codes. I wonder... I'm guessing the car needs to learn how to drive again now that the air is different coming in? ANy idea how many miles? I'm taking it on a trip today so I should put a couple hundred highway miles on it. Hoping I get better gas mileage and a better drive.

Nice job! Yet another member to the Gen3 club! It is a nice accomplishment to install this intake, that is for sure.

Stillen exhaust: what is the problem with it?

SO, no noticable difference in the car with the intake. DId a 200mile trip today and no big deal. AT WOT with the windows down, it did sound nicer though. ONly averaging 21mpg on the trip, so no difference there either.

I know some people feel the Stillen exhaust drones. I, personally, think it is like every other aftermarket upgrade or modification.... If installed properly, it will behave as designed. I personally think the Stillen exhaust sounds great and has decent tips. I don;t need giant 4" tips unless I have a 3 -1/2" exhaust. Just doesn;t fit the car IMO. I also don;t want excessive loudness on my daily driver, so the STillen seemed like a good choice. T

hat and I plan on buying their softloader with Stage 2 software when it comes out in a month or so. I like staying with the same company for those combinations as it will be a better result.

There's a sticky around here somewhere that I used for ECU resetting procedure, and it also has procedures for resettting various A/F/MAF settings, etc. after upgrades.

Pics? Butt dyno results? Opinion on it? Worth the money? I also just bought a 2010xS, so I'm looking to increase the sound of it under hard acceleration, but I don't want droning or other crap on idle or cruising.

That's what is great about the Gen3...it's quiet when you want it to be and loud when you want it to be. My engine is quiet until I lay the lead foot down and then it comes to life

So it was 42 degrees this morning coming into work. At a stop light 2 lanes merge to 1. People are always in the wrong lane (left turns left and right is for going straight, but everyone is always in the left lane to go straight. I pulled up in the right lane and when it turned green I was in DS mode i let it rip. I shifted around 6500RPMs and man I really heard the engine more. I was pleasantly surprised. Always having a turbo its the low end RPM range where the car always pulls hard, but this car definitely is best under hard acceleration. So, yes it was worth it. And I have been watching my gas mileage closely. It is definitely improving. Up to 22mpg with only 100 more miles.

Here are before and after pics....

After

Looks good.

How come you went with the long tube vs. the short ram?

Did you install the Stillen exhaust yet?

I went with the long tube because I prefer CAI's. My experience is short ram's aren't worth it. You just end up with a hot air intake, especially since this engine runs hot, and no improvement in performance. So, getting the intakes outside the engine bay makes a lot of sense.

The exhaust is going on this weekend. I wanted a week of driving with just the CAI to weight its performance.
