Pros and Cons of K&N air filters on G37

After reading through many threads on intakes and filters it seems there are negative opinions of oiled air filters. Why? I am curently using K&N on my 08 G37. I have used K&N for the last 20 plus years on large and small block V8's and have always had confidence in the product.

Haha, there's a big K&N banner ad at the bottom of this thread.

I think the issue is people over oiling a GeeeeOhhhh said (can muck up the MAF sensor reading if oil gets on it), plus I believe the newer non-oiled intakes on the Injen, R2C, etc flow a bit better

+2, just don't over oil them and don't expect a HP increase.

Don't think over oiling's the problem, K&N has videos on You tube where they tried to see if over oiling their filters could lead to MAF contamination and weren't able to. What you sacrafice with oiled cotton gause is engine protection for increased air flow. The performance differences aren't worth that loss IMO.

K&N's seem to be prone to allowing oil to spray into the intake no matter how lightly people claim they oil them. The MAF gets fouled. Also I'm not a fan of their filter media that seems more open (hence the claim for less restriction) which can allow particles to make it past the filter and into the engine.

Yes, the factory filters are oiled but they're not the same media and are very lightly oiled, just like the Purolator PureOne. Since they're disposable you don't need to worry about reoiling.

Oiled filters are designed to help to work better in filtering dust and dirts than the dried one.

But, as the technology grew up, there is no huge difference between both.
Moreover, most dried filters have already shown higher filtering efficiency than the oiled filters.

Dried - better, safer, and easier to maintain.
