Question about HKS Super Hybrid filters

So, I've been doing some thinking.....when I installed my new HKS Super Hybrid drop-in air filters, I thought I was doing something helpful for my engine (cleaning + performance + non-oiled). I've wondered about how these filters do NOT have a rubber gasket around the edges where they meet against the air box to seal out small air particulates. These DO meet flush against the air box, and the fit is tight....BUT.....is it tight enough being plastic-to-plastic without a rubber gasket to seal out small particulates? Also, anyone have info on what size particles these filter out?

I'm assuming the OEM air filters (which I've read on here are paper cellulose and are VERY restrictive on air flow) are always the standby option, but are there better choices? Is the HKS a good one to stick with? Thoughts?<!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!-- / message --> <!-- sig -->

as far as drop-ins go, ive always heard good things about K+N's...I dont know any specs about the HKS' as I've just got stockies right now and the Stillen 3gen in the mail. But I know HKS is a good brand for just about everything else, so I would think their drop in filters would follow suit.

Well this all may be a moot point in the next few days....I'm reallllllly considering the new Injen Short Ram Intake from Lou over at Amplified. Seems like a simple mod, very comparable gains compared to CAI and he's offering a great price (plus they come with the new non-oiled AMSOIL blue air filters (that just look sexy) LOL.

I've got the HKS too and havent had a problem yet. I'm starting to feel the same way as you about the Injen SRI. Looks veerrrrrryyy tempting. I just wish some more people would get them on and post up some reviews and maybe a dyno or two.

Well I did some thinking last night and pulled the trigger on that new Injen short ram intake. I figure if it adds some growl to the sound....awesome. If it provides better, more effective air supply and filtration to my engine (with new AMSOIL nanofiber non-oiled filters)....awesome. If I get a few extra ponies for the purchase/install......priceless. HA HA.

I'll definitely post a review once I get these installed. Lou is really giving a great price on these over at Amp'd.

Thanks man.....quick question though....I'm assuming I'll need to reset my ECU once I get these installed, correct? I can just disconnect the neg battery cable overnight for the reset, right? Instead of the precise process of pressing the accelerator 5 times, yada yada yada?

Goodluck trying the accelerator way. I tried so many times and it never worked for me. Just disconnect the battery overnight and save yourself some headache. Just don't freak out when the window does not close all the way. Just follow the dyi thread on that.

Nope...already know about the window thing. I disconnected my battery while installing my new HID bulbs just to be on the safe side. So I already know how to reset them, etc. Thanks for the heads-up though! Yeah, I'll likely just do the battery disconnect overnight then take the new intakes out for a spin.

you can reset it or just let it adjust. either way is fine really since you never know which way it will adjust. i usually just leave it alone.
