JWT filters turning Gray

I know this had been talked about in the past, but I don't know what everyone ended up concluding from this matter. I have had my JWT's a little over a month and they have started to turn a grayish blue rather than the bright blue they were when I received them. I know people had talked about switching over to the R2C filters but I really didn't want to go this route and was wondering what many others with JWT's have done, if anything. Most of the threads on the R2C filters kinda died out without really concluding anything as to whether they are an exact fit etc. for the JWT's etc.

I mean is this normal for them to turn grey so quickly, has anyone talked or contacted JWT (Reason I ask is I'm planning on calling them to see what's going on). I know they are oiled and that causes the blue color, so I don't know if I should already have to clean them and re-oil them, can't imagine this would need to be done so soon.

No, that's fairly normal. My old JWT in my G35 lost its color quick.

How often did you clean and re oil the filter? I thought once the blue was gone it was time to clean them and re oil, but obviously after one month they shouldn't need to be cleaned I would think.

I didn't clean them for awhile. The JWT filters can go awhile without cleaning.

You might want to consider emailing Ed @ salesinquiries@r2cperformance.com. One member on here got a free set of filters that fit the G37 JWT intake perfectly. Considering the advantages of this filter vs anything else you'd put on it's worth a look, you may be able to eak by as another test fitter for a $120 value.

Yeah, I thought I heard somewhere you can go like 12k miles or 1 year, something like that I think it was. I was just concerned that most of the blue tint was already gone, but I guess that's normal after seeing the responses in here.

You can get the K&N kit from any autozone or kragen store which comes with the cleaner and the red oil... or you could go here: http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/wol...ANING-INST.PDF

and get your blue back. Read number 6, it mentions that the filter may look dirty and yet still work.

My filters are greay with black spots and i have rotated them so the black spots dont stay in one place.

Thanks a ton for the link, very informative and simple instructions on cleaning the filter element in our JTW's. I didn't realize it was such a simple process and feel much better about my filters now. I would also conclude that the point of the blue/red etc. of the oil is really to make sure once you clean it that you have oiled evenly, not to ensure the filter is working, as the link explains how the filter works by the particles/dirt sticking to it etc. Good stuff thanks!!
