Stock Intake with Box lid off

Hey guys I did a search and didn't find anything I was looking for. I apologize if it has been discussed prior though. I come from the evolution family and we were able to see a performance gain from just popping the top off the stock air box and maybe dropping in a K & N filter in there. Does this hold true to the G37 as well or no? Just thinking of popping the lids to get some more air in the engine. Any thoughts with this motor? Good or bad idea? I know all motors are different so just a question.

The G37 already has a really good intake system as is. With that said, aftermarket intakes have done nothing for it with the exception of what seems to be positive results from injens CAI. So I'm thinking that popping the lid wont do much for us.

Oh ok. I kinda figured. I wish it would pick up some gains from that but crap happens.

I think with the intake design the tops off would gather too much hot air from the engine bay to make a power increase, possibly a cool sound, but more than likely a loss of power.

Cant pop the top off. Intake boxes are mounted sideways. The filter just slides up and out.
