driver side hood latch

Hello all, my 09 g37 seems like the drivers side hood latch isnt locking that side anymore. I do lot of highway driving. my question is, i cannot afford the 80 or so dollars for a latch now (rediculious price) , it does make me nervous on the highway, as i can see the driver side hood moving slighty up and down and iam hoping the other side doesnt pop open now as theres more stresses on the hood (if it does, hope that middle safety hook catches it lol) Iam seeing if i can bungee cord it down now from the inside somewhere but there not alot of room and not easy to get to from bottom. as iam concerned about moisture when it rains getting in, as the fuse box is on that side. but untill i can replace it, my question is. I have tools and ive worked on cars before. Ive looked at the latch and it seems its only held on by two screws and i can fit my hand thru the back and hold it. is this an easy job? or is this a complicated thing that the whole bumper needs to come off to do. iam trying to find youtube vids on it. thanks for the advice.

Try and get the part used, from a pick an' pull or ebay even.
If i was to buy new I'd want oem and replace both sides at the same time.
Easy job with the bumper off.
But a lot of fragile plastic tabs involved.
Take your time and you'll be fine.
Bumper comes off relatively easily. Tape up all the seams and lay a blanket down the first time you pull it.
There are more than a few writeups and videos on the Bumper removal to reference

yes, thanks for the reply, i got on youtube iam glad before i ordered the latch. it must be my cable stretched, as i reached behind it and latched it closed myself then opened it, then lightly shut the hood, and it latched closed on that side, so its all good. iam not planning on opening the hood till december when its time for my oil change, i change my oil every 5,000 as i idle alot. if i calculated my idle time to mileage, id be over 300k. many days where my engine been on from 6am to 7pm lol, as i dont shut the motor down to run into a gas station to get things. as i think about i have a totally stock starter lol, and all the annoying things are starting to show, like the hood latch, or last week, i had the plastic pipe that connects the heater hose finally started to go. so iam glad its not my latch, just the cable. thanks for your reply!
