P0462 and gas gauge reading error
I have a 2009 G37x... and this is not an uncommon issue from what I have seen in a few threads on this forum. I have read all the threads. Seems like one potential fix is pretty simple to remove the fuel pump and the fuel sending units under both the rear passenger seats and clean them. I do plan on doing this. However something new just popped up that I wanted to get advice on here before potentially wasting my time pulling and cleaning these 2 parts.
I have had inaccurate gas gauge reading for over a year. No check engine light, no issues with drivability. I just kept an eye on the odometer and filled when I had a chance before it ever got too low based on my actual distance driven. Then about 2 months ago I got the SES light come on and pulling the code it gave me the expected P0462 "Fuel Level Sensor "A" Circuit Low" (according to my Innova scan tool). Again, no issues with drivability and I kept filling before I risked it getting too low.
HOWEVER this week for the first time I think the car has gone in to limp mode. At least I think it has - the symptom is when I pin it and it downshifts the car feels like it hit a brick wall if the revs jump over about 3400. If I let the car gently accelerate up without exceeding about 3400 RPM I can get up to highway speeds and more but if I floor it or down shift where the revs jump over 3400 it goes into handicap mode. The car feels lethargic accelerating up through the gears but it does get up to speed just fine (albeit slowly). I cleared the code to see if this changes anything and results are mixed. On the highway it still seems to be affected by this "limp" mode. Around town it seems to drive well and at lower speeds even lets me exceed 3400 RPM but its not consistent I don't think. In any case it seems like with or without the SES light on, the car seems to have gone in to limp mode just this week. The SES light comes back on within a day and it is the same code as above.
So my question is given these recent developments would cleaning the 2 parts alone be a potential solution for all these issues or am I at a point where I need to replace one or both of those units?
