Question about transmission fluid change

I'm overdue for a transmission fluid change. I just want to make completely sure - the wise thing to do is for me to get a DRAIN AND FILL, and not a FLUSH - correct? I've been a lifelong car leaser so forgive my ignorance for the basic question.

For drain and fiill, you'll need a special adpater to fill up these transmission housings. I'd recommend a transmission fluid exchange as done by the dealer. About $150-$175. They exchange 16 qts of fluid (meaning they change it ALL) by tapping into the transmission lines and totally exchanging the fluid. A fill will only next, say a 50% exchange of fluid.

While there, see if the dealer has any TSBs to address your lazy shifting of the transmission problem.

Read through this (all thought long) thread as it is very informative.

Hadn't heard of a fluid exchange - couple of questions:

1. Is that the same as a flush? Keep hearing warnings to avoid flushes. Will it cause problems the way a full flush will?
2. Is it the same price as a drain and fill, or is it more expensive?

Side note, I should have been more clear... I do plan on having a dealer take care of it vs doing it myself.
