Hello All,
The windshield wiper switch on my vehicles wheel was damaged. It was unfortunately forced down with too much force and no longer clicks (works) properly. I have seen ebays for replacements. My question is there anywhere online with a step by step to remove and replace the actual switch? Does the entire wheel need to be removed to access the area?

Unfortunately, yes, the steering wheel must be removed in order to replace the wiper/ headlight switch assembly. Also, the upper and lower "shrouds" have to be removed as well in order to gain full access to the airbag clockspring which gets bolted to the switch. Here is a pic from when I swapped clocksprings:


When you remove those 4 screws, the switch assembly just slides up. You do not have to physically remove the clockspring from the column.

In all it is a fairly straightforward process that shouldn't take more than a hour or two at the most. If you are unable or unwilling to do the job, I would recommend finding a reputable shop/mechanic. It is not a hard job to do, but a few mandatory precautions must be exercised.

Word of caution: the SRS airbag clockspring MUST be unbolted. Extra care MUST be taken to AVOID damaging the unit. Once the steering wheel is removed the clockspring MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO TURN! A zip tie or electrical tape is often used to temporarily "lock" the spring while work is being performed.
