driver door won't open

i went outside today and i unlocked my car and the drivers door wouldn't open. the other 3 are fine so i guess it wasn't the cold. the inside shows its unlocked but when you pull the handle its like the lock is still on, the door handle will not work from the inside or out. i had to crawl in from the passenger side. i know some cars have a switch on the inside of the door that basically disables the handles, i think my dads 2015 altima has one. but looking on the other doors i didn't see one. any ideas?

Ok so it fixed itself. I came out of Walmart and the door opened. Wish I knew what caused it

I don't know where you are located, but more than likely your issue was cold weather related. Just because the other doors opened and the drivers didn't is not a good indicator. You might want to shoot some WD-40 into the latch mechanism- to lube it up and also drive out any water.

Also, the "switch" you are referring to is the child safety lock. As far as I know these switches are only for the rear doors not the front (not 100% sure as I have a Coupe). Either way this switch does not apply to the drivers door.

Hope some of this helps...

Definitely could've been weather. I live in Cincinnati, it was freezing when I got in. I'll try the WD-40.

Your door latch assembly (door actuator) is probably failing. I had the issue around 60k in Chicago winter. By time I drove to the dealer (on several occasions) It fixed itself and they couldn't diagnose. Lubricant wouldn't help, I guess it's an internal design flaw? My frustration of crawling over to the passenger side took over. I finally bit the bullet took a chance on my best guess and replaced the $300+ part myself. Several years later I'm now at 104k and experienced the issue again as temps hit 0 last week. Picked up the part today.

From what I remember replacement took an hour or so. It's very simple and someone did a step by step I have to find again on YouTube.

DO NOT pay the $480 MSRP. It can be found for under $300 now at some places online. I was able to go thru OEM and pick it up from a dealer near me for $264.

Mine is a 2010 sedan, part number is 80501-JK600. Let me know if you have any questions or need help finding the video!
