Location of starter in a 2008 G37

Hello everyone,

I have a 2008 G37 coupe. it won't start, I replaced the battery and still the same issue. Could it be another component such a relay or selunoid or something. Is there anything else I should look at before replacing the starter?

You need to give us more info to help point you in the right direction. What was the car doing? any power? did it attempt to turn over and nothing? do you hear just a click from the engine bay? awd I believe its on the drivers side of the tranny and rwd on the passenger side if i remember correctly

That sounds like a dying starter. You can try reaching down and tapping it to free up the solenoid possibly....just to get you by

I'm just going to replace it however, Im not sure which side its on and how challenging it is to replace it. Its rwd, If its on the drivers side do I need to drop the suspension? Has anyone posted instructions or gotchas?

Rwd should be the passenger side I believe. Take the wheel off and slide under. Should be right there on the tranny. 20 min job, should be YouTube videos on it

Hey Imfam0us and everyone,

The starter is on the drivers side. Not much instructional videos on this. I saw on youtube someone posted a short vid explaining the crossmember need to be dropped a few inches and the rack needs to be disconnected from the steering column. Any suggestions?

I saw the video I think you are talking about. It looks like a real pain... I've never done one on the G so no real tips on it. Wish I could be of more help on it

This is a difficult job if your car is AWD, since the drive axle blocks easy starter removal resulting in lifting one side of the engine and disconnecting the steering shaft.

However, if you car is RWD, you can unbolt the starter and remove it from the front of the engine. Note: It is a little bit of a twist, turn, tilt puzzle to get it out.

REMEMBER to disconnect the battery before your start!!

Good luck!
