Anybody experience rough idling and occasional stalling at start up?

Have a 2011 G37x with 30K and and I'm getting a little burst of rough idling every so often where it goes below 500 RPM for a second when in park or stopped at a light then idles normally after that. Will happen 3 or 4 times a day. Also every few days I'll start it up and it immediately stalls 2 or 3 times and then starts up and drives normally.

Anybody else experience this, just wanna know what I'm in for when I go to the dealer and hopefully suggest something to them because you know that they won't be able to replicate it and give you the old "everything appears to be fine" schtick. Bad sensor maybe?

Could be a bad sensor or it could be dirty throttle bodies. I would suggest trying to clean the throttle bodies yourself first, there's a DIY in the DIY section, before going to the dealership.

Thanks for the tip but looking at that thread, I don't think I feel comfortable taking anything apart, I know everybody on there is saying it's easy but I would rather have the dealership do it. I assume whatever labor is involved is covered under warranty?

Warranty doesn't cover maintenance. If you bring it in for dealership, then expect to pay anywhere from $150 - $200 or maybe even more for very easy DIY.

I'm not sure about your dealership but mine charges about $120 to clean the throttle bodies. Where you could do it for about $5 with a can of throttle body cleaner.

Take it from me when I say its easy, because I'm not mechanically inclined at all. The thing to do is to take your time. If you rush that's when you start messing up.

I had the same issue. Also felt like it lagged a lot. Cleaned my throttle bodies this past weekend, and car feels way better. No more rpm drops and slow starts.

I had the same issue. Called the dealer and they immediately knew it was the throttle bodies. They replaced them under warranty.

That's what I figure, how is it not a warranty issue? Where in your service manual does it say that throttle bodies need to be regularly cleaned? It's a little bit over 2 years old with 30k. If they are getting so dirty where my car is stalling at start up and has continuous rough idling when stopping then that's a warranty issue in my book because to me that's doesn't constitute reasonable wear and tear. To me thats not any different than needing your altenator replaced while still under warranty because obviously the part is defective and affecting the performance of your vehicle. I didnt pay this much money for a car and have these issues "expected". I've never had another car that needed these cleaned every 2 years. I will be going to the dealer and I'm not going to be paying a cent. If that's the issue then they will be replaced.

Have you had any issues since? Did the dealer acknowledge that they are defective and the replacement parts will not have these issues? I'm curious because if they are replacing the throttle bodies with the same parts that they used in the factory then this will crop up again in 2 more years and I think having to spend over $120 every 2 years so your car idles properly is absolutely ridiculous regardless of whether you can DIY. Shouldn't be expected to. I would expect that from a 1987 Hyundai Pony not a luxury vehicle. Anytime I get warranty work done I always ask lots of questions as to why it happened, is it a known issue andwhether the problem will crop up again and I always have them make sure to note these concerns on my account. Really helps keeping them responsible taking care of the issue if it crops up again and not having it come out of my own pocket when it shouldn't because of a defect in their build quality.

I occasionally will have the dip in rpm to about 500, but not the stalling. The dealer didn't admit that it was a defect, but did acknowledged that it happens a lot when I asked if this is common for a car with 26k miles.

My car has been doing this recently after I had the software update. The dealer couldn't figure out what was causing the issue and they didn't think it was the throttle bodies. I might just clean them myself and see if the car does better. My mpg has been kinda ****ty lately too.

Did the dealer check the throttle bodies? Even if he didn't think it was the issue, he should check and clean them anyways just to make sure.
