Car decided to not start yesterday; Found a "secret" start button?

Hey all,

I bought my 2008 G37s used in May of 2011. The car has been wonderful since then, until yesterday when all of the sudden my car wouldn't start. It has been driving fine up

until I parked it in a parking garage (d'oh!), came back and it wouldn't even engage the starter to turn the engine...

I used the buttons on the door to unlock the car with the key in my pocket, got in the car and tried to push in the clutch and press the start button with no luck. The

instrument panel doesn't light up at all minus the "key" light showing. I tried putting the "intelligent" key inside the holder and attempted to start with no luck. I

checked all of the fuses, they all look good from what I can tell. AAA tested the battery and that looked good too. WEIRD!

Then.. I towed it to the dealer thinking that maybe the key was disassociated since it was displaying "key" on the instrument panel but upon their initial inspection, they found a secret start button on the right kick panel below the steering wheel area. It will start up the car, but the instrument panel still doesn't come on and it still displays "key".. Has anyone ever heard of something like this? My car is modified a bit with some bolt ons and an upRev tune, but that's it.

Thanks,

-Rich

I got told that maybe if the alternator is bad or not charging, the car won't start up - By a nonreputable source. I'm not sure if I believe that...?

That's aftermarket. The previous owner had it installed.

I have no clue why..? It's weird. It'll bypass the push button but still requires a key present from what I've seen.

Looks like it was the Ignition switch fuse inside the fuse container that also houses the Radiator Fan and AES (?) (50a,30a,30a). I popped out the other fuse in the box that fits and is pretty close to the same specs to test and the car turned on just fine.

I find it very strange that, if the ignition switch fuse goes out, you lose your entire instrument cluster illumination and the charging system operation. :-\ Got the part on order from Infiniti.

BTW - The ignition fuse didn't look like it was blown. I had checked it before all this mess and thought it was fine... Unfortunately, neither I nor Infiniti tried an ohm-meter or something similar to test it. Instead, I just double checked and noticed that there was a tiny break on it and prodded it with a knife to make sure. ;-)
