Ecu reset problem

Hey team,

I recently did the ECU reset. - 2008 G37 Coupe-

Now I've got high RPMS.

I followed this link above to even help me.

There was a couple of threads i read on how to do it too.

I attached a pic of when its at idle position.

If pic doesnt show, at idle its already close to 1000rpms, 2nd and 3rd gear are pushing 2-3 and gunning it is jumping around 5ish.

Any idea if I didnt do this right or messed up anything.

1) Why did you reset your ECU?
2) I don't understand what you mean by your rpm's are too high?

Because I bought the car used, where the car was adjusted to that drivers style, and i wanted it adjusted to mine. So i read that you can reset that ECU to your driving. With the rpms, they are reving higher then normal when i push on the gas and at the idle position. When you idle everyting should be at zero, the rpm is already hanging around the 1000 rpms, and when i take off it jumps up btwn 2-3000 rpms. Im thinking i may have to take it to a dealership....

The car should idle at about 650 RPM. When you take off it should go to whatever RPM you accelerate to.

Maybe he means the engine spins up faster than before (with same amount of throttle)?

OP, take a pic of the tach at idle after warmup with your foot OFF the throttle.

Also, how many miles since the reset? Have you been on the highway?

Well I just took it on the highway and its running 3k rpms around 70-80mph and 3500-4000 near 90. Is that about right?

I can not get a pic loaded on here some reason, the URL isnt letting me. It only loads the link.

Maybe 100 miles put on the car since reset.

You need to be much, much more precise. At 80 MPH in 6th gear in a 6MT the engine should be turning 3K RPM. I'm not sure what it will be an an AT car. Don't give ranges, 70-80 mph and 3500-4000 means nothing, there is a huge difference there. If you want people to help you, give them good information.

Your RPM at any given speed depends on what gear you're in (gear ratio) and is purely mechanical. Even if you swap your engine and entire ECU, it won't be affected. Things that could affect it would be swapping your transmission, differential and wheel size.

When idling, anywhere between 650 and 1000 rpm is fine (cold starts can see rpms to up to 1500rpm temporarily). ECU resets will not affect that. Now stop being paranoid and enjoy your ride

The idle will be a bit higher when you initially start the car, especially when it is cold. It will eventually settle down to around 850 (with the car in park or neutral) once it warms up.
