New Jack or Ramps+Old Jack
New Jack or Ramps+Old Jack
Car is G37S convertible and I want to lift the front at the front mid lift point..
I'm looking at either an Arcan XL-35 Low-profile jack or Race Ramps RR-RU 4" ramps and using the 3-ton jack I already have.
Price is about the same for either the Lift or Ramps.
Any thoughts?
Thanks...

here is my low profile jack and stands
OTC 1533 Aluminum Racing Jack Pack 2 Ton Jack & Stands

love the jack, works great for lowered cars, and the stands look fancy :P
Also look into the following ones
Omega

AC jack (expensive low profile jack - $600+ or something) VS the Omega

Well, I got the XL35 jack.
Here's some pics from the lift yesterday. The first pic is the front R Tire Well panel removed.
I do have a question: Is it Ok to place jackstands at the Transverse Link-Suspension member. See last pic.

Here's much higher resolution pics.

It took 2 costco's to find one of these, but eventually I did.
The one I went to had a whole pallet (10 units?) of XL325R's, same sku #300930 @ $99.99. However, if you notice, this one is rated at 3.25 tons, not 3.5 like the xl35r. From the pics I've seen of the 35r, this one looks practically identical except for the differing model #. Not that 1/4ton is going to make a big difference. The box does say made in china. I suspect the xl35r is also made in china?
Looks like the one in this link http://www.mygaragestore.com/detail.aspx?ID=1597
My old jack is a sears 9-50115 3 tons deal I got back in early '98. It works great to lift the car, but is a nightmare to lower it in a controlled manner, especially when the handle is not vertical.
Will give arcan a call on monday to clarify any other differences.

finding a decently priced jack (<$130) to simply slide underneath to the mid point and jack up is pretty hard if you are dropped on eibachs or lower.
if you are stock height the aluminum 1.5ton from harbor freight should JUST ABOUT make it there. but it might struggle getting up a little (no pun intended) cuz its not dual piston/strong enough... maybe theyve upgraded their jacks it since?
if you are on eibachs or lower, i would suggest using your stock scissor jack (or an after market one if you are scared - the nissan one hasnt failed me yet) to jack it up front the side pinch weld just enough so that you can slide any jack underneath to the mid garage jack point.
ramps are annoying to get on :P
btw realize that you cant do anywork that requires the removal of a tire if you are on ramps. just get any jack + 2 jackstands are you are good to go.
