New to forum/ Due for an oil change

Hello,
I have a 2010 G37S and is due for an oil change. I called a Nissan Dealers since it is nearby and they recommended me to get Mobile 1 and once I have Mobile 1 that I can change it at 6000 mile intervals. I just need to come in and change the filter at around 3000 miles or midpoint before I reach the 6000 mile mark. Does this sound correct with Mobile 1 or synthetic oil? I dont know if I should use the other Eysther?? oil which is more costly than mobile 1. They are charging me around 140. Does this sound right or any recommendations. Please give a newbie some advice.

thanks

You double posted this in the Sedan forum. Here's what I said over there:

"I would search the forums. There's lots of good oil threads. Here's my take:

1. Change the oil every 3750 on Schedule 1* driving, especially early in your car's service life. If you want to experiment with longer drains later on, then you'll need to get a used oil analysis to make sure the oil you choose is protecting your engine well.

2. PureOne filters are plenty good.

3. Nissan Ester oil is overpriced and shows poorly in used oil analysis. Some of the best UOAs I have seen in the G37 come from Pennzoil Platinum and Eneos.

* Unless you do nearly 100% highway driving, you are on Schedule 1."

You're better off just doing it yourself. It's super easy, and this is coming from a guy who never did anything mechanical to a car before my G. Search youtube for a G35 oil change DIY. Use that and the process is super easy.

The dealership is right that you can increase your intervals to 5k-7k miles WHEN USING SYNTHETIC OIL. The interval depends on your driving habits. You can also leave your oil filter in longer if you are using a quality (i.e. K&N, PureOne) oil filter.

However, the G37 engine is recommended to be used to an ester oil such as Eneos or Motul. The oil that they provide at the dealership is actually a non-synthetic petroleum based oil with an ester additive which is why it does not perform as well as an Ester based oil. Eneos will cost slightly more than Mobil 1 but is much better for your engine since it is ester based. However, this is also determinate on your driving habits. If you use Mobil 1 Synthetic and you start having an engine ticking noise, the dealership will recommend that you only use the Nissan ester additive oil.

You can get a K&N oil filter for around $10-$12 at Autozone or O'Reilly's if you want it to last longer and perform better than generic filters.

Many people have had success on Mobil 1 synthetic but not all of them. Either way you choose, I would not recommend purchasing the oil from the dealership as it is overpriced and non-synthetic.
