I do understand Eneos is saying. Eneos has been Nissan's oil provider for quite a while now. So, it is natural that Nissan would go to Eneos to make this Ester oil for Nissan.

However, Nissan's European Patent Application and Nissan's White Paper both have a slightly different story than what Eneos is saying. Since the Patent Application statements are made under penalty of perjury, I think they may be a little more reliable than what Nissan may or may not be telling Eneos.

The European Patent Application has been preliminarily denied because two other patents were issued a long time ago protecting carbon based oil additives. So, oil companies may be free to make their own versions of carbon additive oils once Nissan's appeal rights expire. In the U.S., there are no protections of carbon additive oils, so anyone could make such an oil. (And yet, no one ever has.)

I guess Eneos wants to protect its relationship with Nissan, so Eneos probably does not want make their own version of the oil without Nissan's approval.

Well, Mobil 1 seems to be a popular choice on the poll so far. Should be interesting once more people vote.

Found this site a while back since I was thinking about using Motul: http://shop.edoperformance.com/motul...30-p-9809.html

About as cheap as I can find online.

Mobil 1 still seems to be a clear favorite. For those of you who have voted for Mobil 1, have you done a Used Oil Analysis (UOA) on the Mobil 1 to see how it fared in our VQ/VVEL engine?

Why do you think there is anything special about this engine, that would make any oil perform differently? FWIW, I quit doing UOA after they kept coming back fine on my BMW...with 17,000 mile change intervals.

I think he means on the VQHR engine and how oil can withstand against the high revs over a long period of time. It is an understandable question IMO.

As opposed to the high revs in a BMW or Porsche or just about any other performance car?

Not sure if that is what he meant or not. Which BMW engine are you referring? I didnt realize they had an actual High Revving engine. They just slap some twin turbos on and call it a day. I could be wrong though.

That was exactly what I was meaning. Just trying to make a contribution to the myG37 community because I know for a fact there are many people on here who wonder what products are better to use in their cars as opposed to others. I had done some reading on my350z and there's actually many UOA's that showed (for example) that Royal Purple actually didn't do that well in the VQ. That was the source of my question. Just trying to learn.

No problem. You will see RP doesn't do well in ANY engines. So again, nothing special about the Nissan motor. Oils can be different, but engines really aren't. BMW has the most demanding oil certification criteria, if you stick with those oils, you will be very happy. There are only a handful that are readily available in the US. Just look for BMW LL-01 on the label. BMW 5W-30 oil, Mobil 1 0W-40, Castrol 0W-30. There are a few other boutique oils that meet the spec. No RP oil meets the spec.

as of 5000 miles, i run 300v. i get mine from sharif @ forged performance.

8100 and 300v should be separate options since they are 2 different levels of oil by the same company.

Hmm I'm on royal purple now....guess I should me switchin to another, btw what is it that makes it not a good oil for our cars, I used to have a 350 and I was running with this brand and it seemed to run normal (never worse or had problems).

It just doesn't hold up as well as many other synthetics during UOA. It probably won't make your car fall apart, oil choice is hardly that big a deal. There are other readily available oils that perform better and cost the same or less.

What I don't understand is how people choose to use RP in the 1st place. I guess the cheesy marketing strategy works. Personally, I run away from any product that relies on testimonials. Hard test data is much more truthful. The Amsoil pyramid scheme is also lame, although Amsoil does make some decent oils.
