The DEFINITIVE oil thread
Found this surfing.
G37 and others need synthetic oil to keep the chain guides from wearing off (so they say) 0 wt/30 wt oil is expensive the owner likes it when you say $300 for a oil change with ESTROL OIL. If they take it to Ippy Lube and get regular oil and the timing chain wears out the chain guides you can say no warranty you did not use Nissan Only Ester oil

No problem bud! That's a great deal for that oil. My local Wally World has recently increased the price to $23 for the 5qt jug....I'm guessing more and more people are hearing that it's actually a great oil. It's even priced higher than the almighty Mobil 1 now (which is at $22). Ahhh yes supply and demand at its finest.
Funny. Mobil 1 does ok but not great in all the testing over at my350z.com. Search on member "resolute". He knows his stuff. German Castrol is one of the best. I'll probably start with conventional Castrol GTX and then go to Castrol Syntec once she is broken in. For some reason neither oil is on the poll? K & N or Mobil 1 oil filter (they are made by the same mfg.)

Another good one to consider is Rotella T-Syn, it got great reviews on my350z and although its marketed as a heavy duty truck oil, it apparently did the job great according to Castrol and I think Westpak? Was the user who really put it through it's paces and it was deemed still good till about 8k miles. I could be wrong on the user but the stuff is definitely tough.
Ran it through my Z for as long as I can remember, great oil.

jmark, there is a GREAT UOA on 'bitog" from a VQ37 using GC...best numbers
I've seen yet from a VQ37VHR....very impressive. I totally agree with you
about Mobil 1...good oil, but consistently shows higher shedding of wear
metals in every VQ35 UOA I've seen....especially Iron, a sure sign of wear
in bad places.
Oro, Agree on the Rotella T-syn, Very robust additive package, rated 40W, but
actually closer to 30W. I've used it for several years in my Yamaha FJR, Goldwing,
Honda Civic, M35x and one of my Harleys (which it seems to work well in)
I CAN attest to it's performance and good UOAs in the VQ35.....but I would
never put it in a VQ37.

I have been using mobil 1 5w30 with no problem. I was out looking for the GC 0w30 but couldnt find it. However, I found M1 0w30 from walmart for the same price as the M1 5w30, would you guys think it's ok to run this instead of the GC since it's easier to get? Has anybody tried the 0w30? Thanks.
Would it be okay to add in another type of oil if the engine has a shortage? For instance, the engine has conventional oil and after checking the oil, I find a shortage. Is it perfectly fine to just add Mobil 1 Synthetic to the required amount?
